hey guys,
I hate to open a can of worms like this knowing there are alot of good scopes out there but here is what I am debating. Let me know if you have any experience, likes or dislikes or whatever. It will be going on a Rem 700 Sendero SF II 25-06 and will be primarily a varmint rifle with some long range (400+ yard) bench shooting.

I am considering a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 6.5-20-50 with a illuminated scope ($1300-$1500) or a Leupold VX-III 4.5-15x50 illuminated. (1100-1300)

ON the other side I am considering a Nightforce 6.5-22x50 illuminated. ($1400-1500)

Let me know your thoughts.

thanks

Having owned both, I now only still own the NF's. It's not a close call. They are far more reliable and better glass. They are worth the money. Leupold is way overpriced for the quality, or lack thereof. I would recommend the NF 5.5x22x56 over the x50 though.

But seriously Nightforce all the way ! That Luppy is a great scope but the NF is one of the clearest brightest optics I have ever used. I had a 5.5-20 but couldnt get myself to actually use it with the price tag what it was !!

That price range, I would go with a Ziess or Swaro... I am partial to Ziess.

I'm saving for a Night Force so you should too laugh

What ever you do, MAKE SURE THE TURRETS MATCH THE RETICLE! Otherwise you have to do all that stinkin math like I posted for dealing with a MIL reticle and MOA turrets.

Do yourself a favor and check out Trijicon as well.

Nightforce mades great tough scopes, but their glass is not in the same class as highend Euro glass

Trijicon makes a great scope as well!

They made there name in tactical optics and saw a place to make a few dollars with the hunting markets. Just not sure if that is a great choice for a bolt action. For a AR-15 or similar, I won't even question it.

nightforce with matching reticle/turrets. either MOA/MOA or MIL/MIL and you wont be dissappointed.

http://www.opticsplanet.net/nightforce-nxs-35-15x-tactical-riflescope.html

here you go under $1500

I always use leupolds, but bought my first nightforce nxs f1 model with first focal reticle in 3.5-15x50. so far awesome, would recommend both. expect to pay around 2 grand though for the same nightforce.

To me, good customer service is designing it right and then paying attention to quality control during manufacturing so that the product does not have to go back. The "best customer service" to me is a warning flag for poor quality control when it left the door the first time.

Leupold today is not the quality it once was. I used to swear by them, and then it became swear at them. I've seen too many fail with my own eyes to think it was just one or two bad ones. I've sold mine and am never going back.

I have yet to see a NF fail, and I've seen them subjected to far harder use. 2cents

I don't mind at all. Not holding a zero and not tracking accurately.

definately swarovski if your going to drop a grand in it make a good choice. swaro is about the best you can get. got one on a 300 tactical and its nothing to shoot 800 to 1000 yards. and have never seen a scope as clear as it
