I can deal with that one "Flys it dies" for one reason If it doesn't fall my dog will curse me and make me ride in the back of the truck!!!

But give a deer a chance! let the genes get out there. shoot culls

I'm pretty sick of all the AR threads and complaining that goes with them, but I'm not going to say everyone needs to be on AR's because everyone's place is different.

All I can vouch for is AR's helped tremendously in the county where I've hunted for the past 30 years.

The brown it's down mentality was pretty much the norm, and if you didn't shoot that spike or fork horned buck the neighbor would and it was when you snooze you lose.

I'd watched many a small buck appear in years past before the AR's and only to see him run off before I could get my rifle around and out the window, and then to hear the KAPOW shortly follow after the deer cleared the fence.

It was frustrating and if you saw a buck with eight points that may have had a little age on it more often than not it was just a little basket rack about 10" wide.

Talking genetics was a joke and when you kill off all the thoroubreds your stuck with what you got.

So...Long story short you can now see More deer, larger deer, and larger racks on those deer, and I've even let some pretty decent (legal) bucks walk so they'll be there this year, and the neighbors have changed their attitudes also, and it's no longer if it's brown it's down.

I hunt for the enjoyment, and it's not just about horns because I like to see deer and nice ones when I hunt, instead of being on pins and needles hoping to just see a deer, and then getting a hurried shot off before the neighbor does, as in years past. And if I want meat, I would rather shoot a doe or go buy a half a calf for the freezer.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I'm sick of hearing that phrase. yawn How many times must one say since the implementation of ARs, we can now down more browns than we could prior with the addition of the spike tag and increased doe tags.... whip

I'll agree with you guys. If I'm filling the freezer, a doe is much better than a 6 pointer or a juvenile 8 pointer. For a buck, if it's not as good as the 2 I've shot that were nice enough to justify mounting, I won't shoot it. I will shoot the heck out of a trash buck given the chance, though.

I LOVE the effect that AR's have had on our place in Coryell County.

We don't need to have the AR argument again. The last tiime we did, we all basically ended up coming to the conclusion that ARs are awesome, so it's a non-issue now that we're all in agreement.

Nice cull eatex..AR sucks..I am not if its brown its down guy..I have shot one deer in four years..But I do have two bucks that don't meet AR and they need to be taking out..So now I have to do it illegally so these two clowns don't breed..

If you have the mentality of if it's brown it's down shoot a doe and give the bucks a chance to grow. I get sick of hearing guys that have this mentality but at the same time complain that where they hunt they just don't have big bucks. DUH you are shooting them before they can get big. Don't get me wrong I'm all about getting meat in the freezer and I'm all about shooting cull bucks.

Cborden - Is it better to have a couple of bucks that you can't kill but would like to in addition to the bucks that are legal, or no bucks at all?

Kill doe for meat, kill doe for meat....what do you think carries the baby deer in their bellies? It takes 2 genders of deer to make your trophies. So go ahead and kill a doe that might have or at least in the future could have your future trophy buck in her baby holding area.....anyone ever look at it that way? Just sayin' confused2

rifleman - I know they're "around", but at my buddy's place in Bedias, we literally did not get 1 buck over 2.5 in 3 years of game camera use. Not only at feeders, either. Game trails overlooking watering spots, creek bottoms, etc.

On the hoof the biggest deer we ever saw was a very young 6-pt.

So, yeah, there were bucks. They were just all young, tiny, and terrified into never moving during the day.

Cameron I agree with most of the AR..I think taking true cull bucks that are 4 years old and still have one spike antler or the other I'm talking about is going on 4 this year and has no browtines and last year didn't get outside the ears needs to be taken out..I have a bad(good)problem on our place in that I have more bucks than does..I hate the AR conversations, but do you not agree that these deer need to be culled so that they don't breed?

I'm just prodding, by the way.

I can certainly concede that while they may be good for certain areas, they may not be in others. I like ARs, but don't feel strongly enough either way to really care.
