JJ,

Man I just saw that your offering duck hunting 101. What an EXCELLENT IDEA. For years I have often wondered how to approach, to have an effect on, the issue of new gunners exploring this unbelievable world of waterfowling. Back when there was a three bird limit or the point system as such kept us down to three to five birds, it seemed that only the die-hard, addicted to duck hunting, type hunters were on the lake. As the limits became more liberal, more and more week-end warriors began to join us all on the lake.
It seemed that a majority of these new guns to duck hunting came to this sport without the benefit of a mentoring group that demonstrated, and I do mean DEMONSTRATE through there own behavior, "how to duck hunt" and I mean all of it.
Calling, not calling, once a group of birds began to work your neighbors spread you STOP calling and leave the birds alone. Not shooting AT or sky-busting your neighbors ducks on the swing. Having enough maturity to not play the game of "well he tried to call my ducks off me so I am going to do the same thing to them". Not shooting ducks on the water. TRYING to take the drakes and leaving the hens alone not because we have to, but because its the right thing to do. Have I shot hens? Yep I sure have. I try not to, Lord knows I have killed my share of ducks and there may come a time when I have to shoot ducks with only a camera or video cam.
My point is, J.J. THANK-you for doing something, or at least trying to do something that will, or at least has an opportunity to, impact the new duck hunters coming to the marsh, lake, tank, field, WHEREEVER the ducks want to be.

Thank-you my friend, I think that is a wonderful idea and I would love to participate in it with you in whatever capacity you see fit. Whether its packin in decoys or (lol) sitting on the new guy until you "call the shot".

Harry-well done my friend

Thanks Harry! up

Honestly my Dad suggested to me to offer something like that.

I thought it was a good idea...

He said to go for the "newbie" waterfowler...(he was more talkin' getting a Kid to go) But I broadin' it, to Youth Or Adults alike...fore there is many Adults that have just gotten into the sport.

I appreciate the kind words... smile

J.J.

That had a lot to do with my experience. I wasn't taught much duck hunting etiquette, there was no one around to give a you know what. It was mostly common sense based on what worked...and older brother threatening bodily harm if I didn't "wait on em to come in"

I didn't see squat for game wardens until we moved off point system and implemented non toxic shot.
