Wish I could make it this year. Way too much on the plate right now.

I enjoyed it last year and I can tell you it has worked a couple of times this past season.

Wal1809 does a good job and is well worth it. Stinkbelly's a great host. up

OK the fun is over!! Went to Galveston fishing the north shore line on a 3 foot deep grass beds. We beat the crap out of the reds this weekend. Threw back probably 24 reds on Saturday. The fun is over and the clinics begin. I am ready to get started. I started getting the bus ready last night. My wife will have the groceries and the what nots by Thursday and hope to get on the road by 2:00 PM Friday and arrive at 7:00 PM. Get set up and get to work.

Last year I was there until I believe 2 pm. There is really no way to know for I have no idea how many dogs are going to show. If you are running late just call me at 713 530 9182 and we will try our best to hang in there for you.

My intentions are to start hitting it at 7AM and stay on track until I am done. As fast as possible. It is a long drive home, I had trouble last year. Fortunately I will be in the bus so I can pull over and take a nap if needed.

Where is the clinic being held at in Weatherford? I have not given my dog the snake shots - you said you had them available - do you give the shots or advice on how to give them? Thanks. I work until noon on Saturday, so I hope to see you at the clinic after that.

I would also like some information as far as directions and information on the event. I took my lab to a snake training last year but due to all the bad reports of snakes this year would like to get him trained again to make sure he gets the point. He got his snake vaccine last year and I'd also like to get him another one this year. Please send me a PM when you get a chance.

Really tho, Wayne will do you guys right. He will cut the fangs off the snake, tape it up, and that snake will be pizzed off, then he lets it strike him all it wants like the pic above. Wayne never told me this I promise, but I took that as his way of standing behind his work, if he is not worried about the snake biting him, you should not worry about it biting your dog. up

I took these pix last year, them snakes don’t like Wayne. grin

Hello Guy kewl pics!!! I took your advice and have a system we are implementing now. Whwn you register you get a numbered chip which is white. That is your dog's order. If you get the vaccine you get another color chip too.

That way if your in line you can ask what number dog is up and you will kind of know how long before your next.

Wayne,

Let me ask a dumb question just so I know what I am getting in to. I just recently CC'd Zeke. Is there anything that can go in regards to what I have already done with him?

Hello Jason. I don't believe your question is stupid at all. I appreciate your concerns. To answer the question yes things can go wrong if not done properly. It is a matter of all the senses of the dog being concentrated on the snake and making him think the snake it doing the dirty deed.

In a training setting the collar is turned up just enough to be effective with the dog. In snake avoidance it is turned all the way up so the wow factor is much greater.

Also in training you give a command and a correction for a refusal. There are no commands in snake avoidance. It is simply the dog discovers snake, the senses are focused and bam. So it is really two different situations.

Now for everyone to read and pay mind to, I can tell if a dog has been trained with a heavy hand or been trained with too much collar. If a dog is not excited when they are putting the collar on then I believe the trainer has been heavy on the collar. It does make it harder to differntiate (for the dog) the difference between the snake avoidance and training.

My male is very soft. He does not like the collar at all. To combat this I put it on him and run fun bumpers without the collar turned on. Just fun. He still has trouble with the collar. It has gotton better but he will never get over being afraid of the collar. I took him for a 6 week specific training when he was a pup. That trainer is way too hard on thr collar. I didn't recognize him when I picked him up. I was sick when I found out this had been done to him.

Come on out to the clinic and we can discuss what and how your pup needs to be trained. I believe we can get it done right.

Great question and good response, thanks for asking because I wondered the same thing.

One more question, does this make them avoid all snakes or is it mainly a rattlesnake deal. I assume all snakes scents are different and that is why I ask.

Also, I don't plan on dove hunting and not real sure about teal hunting her mainly because of snakes and temps. Is it something that is a good idea anyway?

I think what your doing is great so by no means take this as I am downing what you are doing or doubting the effectiveness.

Hello Judd This training will make them avoid all snakes. If you will watch the dog after the training, and watch the dog whan he sees my lead rope. It is 20 foot black and white checkered rope. They figure out really quick it is not a snake but in most dogs you can see they are taking a closer look when they see it.

So far as hunting I do it. I vaccinate and train them prior to the season. So far as temps go I take water with me. If we are dove hunting we put the big marine coolers in the back of the truck full of water. When we get there we dunk the dogs.

I make sure they have drinking water and most importantly watch their tounge. If it is hanging flat and wide like an upside down lightbulb get them in the dunkin tub and leave them. Take them out of the loop for a little while. I let them retrieve even if the bird falls close by. It is so much more fun seeing pup putting it al together.
