im going to plant a winter food plot at a hunting spot that isnt known for deer. im going to feed corn also but this is the only spot i have that is a good set up to shoot a deer with my bow and i have yet to do so and its something ive been trying to do.
so what im wanting to know is
what to plant?
and when to plant?
i planted tecomate forage oats last year and im going to plant it again. but what could i mix with it?

I plant the week before sept. 1st in SE Oklahoma. I plant wheat,oats,turnips, and clover. How much land are you planting and where would help all of us with answers.

Oats work good in my area. I tried tha crap in a bag from Wal-Mart with no luck. Needs to be something native to your area IMO.

its going to be around 1/2 acre plot.

straight wheat or oats. Thats a smaller plot and most anything else wont withstand any grazing preasure

I would def go with oats. they are a great attractant for a nice hunting good plot and it will withstand the pressure.

I do a mix of Oats, Winter Wheat, Turnips, Rape & Chicory as well as PEAS, Grows good every year and fertilize with Triple 13, my place is in Hood County.

Along with oats i would plant winter peas and triticale be sure to plant oats that works well in your area Buck Forage oats work well most any where as well as TAM oats someone at your county coop can probly help you figure out a variety of oat and when to plant as well as type of fertilizer
