It should be good anywhere around there. I hunt a little further out and have had really good luck around there. It can get shot out pretty quickly though.

Shoot me a PM. There are a few of us that hunt out there and I can probably tell you about a few of the outfitters.
The area has birds, but it is not like south Texas. Like anywhere, got to find a place with water/food. I was on a place a few years ago that had a field where groups of whitewings would fly through same time every day. But that is no longer available.
I think the further south you go and west the better.

Katy is loaded with Dove. Problem is most of them are in subdivisions!! Like Lance2372 said, they do get shot out quick, but there always seems to be some around somewhere.

I am also looking for a lease in that area, this will be my son's first year to hunt with me. Wanted to do a lease get him out there, and hopefully see a few birds.

Any recommendations for day hunt outfitters around Katy/Brookshire/Sealy? If I were to do a day hunt on the Katy Prairie, I would contact John Warren and go hunt the Warren Ranch south of Hockley. As far as leases, there are a few good ones I am sure. Just be careful, so many people have a field and sell dove leases to put some change in their pocket even if there are no doves or food or water. You will probably be dealing with crowds as well. but if it is $150....well, at least you have a place to go.

Ill second what mwaites posted. Last time I stuck my neck out and recomended a lease North of 10 I got my @%$@#% chewed out for about a month. I can tell you that there is an operation or 2 that I havent heard any bad things about though. You also might want to give Lance at Backwater a call for a day hunt. I hear good things about his hunts North of 10.

I have hunted the katy prarie 4 times in last 7 years. Its hit or miss like always. Have had 2 great years and 2 lousy years. But you can't beat driving 10-15 minutes to hunt.

I think the main thing is you have to temper your expectations when hunting out that way. You also need to take the time to drive out and look at the fields you have the choice to hunt. Alot of these guys will let you survey the land before you decide. It's like anything else you just need to take the time and do your diligence and make sure you are getting your money's worth. At the end of the day getting your kid out there is the main thing.
I hunt a private place North of 10 and we slaughtered the doves for 2 days last year. That being said its not like that every year.

I tried a hunt club and TP&W place around Katy. Few birds and lots of hunters. I thought never again then last year we found a spot N of 290. First day typical Katy area, then nice guy landowner lets us walk into field next door. 2nd day on it was limits if you could hit. We had the place for a week. Long story short, scout the farm roads and hit on the landowner yourself. I was told that was how we got it. I was just a friend of a friend so I never saw the landowner.
