Thermacell works as advertised. I have even read about how you can refill the butane cartridges and cut the pads in half to make them last longer.
I have one and it's great. Just got one for my father-in-law and dad for father's day too.

Thermocell is the best thing out there bar none for bug repelant. We use it hunting, around camp or even outside here at home. Best hunting related invention in a long time. Well worth the money.

I'll never go in the woods again without my thermacell. (Wow that sounded like a cheesy late night infomercial line.)

With all the rain we had last fall I became a big fan of the Thermacell. I had one for a few years but never really used it. Last year, I dont think I could have made it though most of my bow hunts with out it. I was convinced.

after my encounter with skeeters and chiggers last year, i'm gonna heed the sound advice of the many hunters on here and get me a thermacell. and i might take a sulfur bath.
I'll let you know how it turns out next year.

the cheap off version works too. my only gripe is that they are blue and make what seems like a little too much fan noise to me.

Thermacell seems to work alright. But it is FAR from odorless. You can definitely smell it. Its not as potent as others, but dont think for a minute it cant be noticed.

A Thermacell can make all the difference being comfortable when the skitters are buzzing.
The only negative is that it would seem they don't work as well in windy conditions where the active chemical is more easily dispersed.

they do have a slight smell, but for whatever reason, the deer aren't bothered by it and don't even seem to notice. I had deer within 10 yards of my box blind several times last year while I was running the thermacell.

The smell that it omits is from a flower found in the wild that mosquitoes and flies do not like. I don't think however they repell chiggers.

Thermacell has new earth scented pads you can use also, I don't notice much difference in the smell however. I think the flower they use is chrysanthemum.

I'll vouch for the Thermocell also, because it works IF the wind isn't blowing then all bets are off. I used it last year and the skeeters were so bad they were swarming on me when I drove up to the gate and I almost went back home they were so thick. One thing I found that works besides the Thermocell is a little bottle of All Terrrain Natural Herbal Armor. My wife picked up a couple bottles on a reduced rack somewhere and paid a $1.48 a bottle, and since she bought it for me, I put one in my bag thinking this stuff is probably scented water and wouldn't work, but I tried it one day and I'll tell you what that stuff is the best insect repellent I've ever used. It smells good with a kind of citrus smell and it flat keeps the bugs away. I thought maybe it was a fluke, but I used it again and it keeps the skeeters off and away. I even sprayed it around the windows of the blind and you could see the skeeters try to fly into the window and then just hold up and swarm just outside the window as if it had a screen on it. I don't usually recommend a product unless I know it works and this stuff does, and I don't have anything to do with this company and only have used the stuff, but it made me a believer. I've still got plenty left for this year, but I'm going to order some when I run out of one of the bottles. http://www.allterrainco.com/catalog_i2232129.html?catId=96003Here is the website in case someone want to give it a try! BTW: It does have a strong citrus smell but it didn't seem to effect the deer. At least I never noticed and I got three last season, and if I hadn't been bug free I doubt I would have hunted most of the days because where I hunt is a creek bottom and the skeeters where fierce. So what's worse, staying home or moving and waving your arms swatting bugs, or using the wind in your favor, and staying bug free?

Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I'll put my 2cents in. I love Thermacell. I've been using it for about 6 years now. Some years I really don't need it, but last bow season I couldn't hunt without it. Down here in the bottoms in Louisiana, it can get pretty bad with mosquitoes. The Thermacell is a Godsend during these times. As for the scent, I have had many mature deer walk right by me with the thermacell going full blast. I have tried the earth scent pads and don't really like them. Not that they don't work, because they do, but they have a perfume smell to them. I'm going to stick with the regular pads. They also work on gnats and no-seeums. If you have never tried one, my advice is to buy one now. You will be glad you did.
