Looking at a Remington 798 in a .243. Anyone ever had this paticular model. Is it a good model or would a classic Bdl be a better purchase?

I would highly recommend going with the 700 over the 798. Actually saw a guy at the range hve the bolt fall out while he was shooting. Don't know if it was something he did or if something just broke.

They are Russian made rifles from what I understand.

The 798 may be the best rifle Remington produces. It's a 98 Mauser action in a great looking stock. Read the reviews and then tell me you prefer a BDL. I have both. The Mauser action would not be used on many custom rifles if it were junk. I also agree that many custom rifles are built on 700 actions.Look for a 7-08 Rem. rather than a 243 Win. I had deer run off with a 243 even with good shot placement.
