Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

My trusty old Marlin 336 in .35 Remington is my #1
I've also got a 30.06, but it's a family heirloom, so I want to keep it safe. I'll shoot it from time to time.
I've also got my AR in .223, and my 917

Picking a caliber to deer hunt with is hard for me so before I go out, I put all my rifles on a little piece of paper and draw 2 out of a hat and take those. One to shoot and one for backup in case #1 has something go wrong. If you made me pick, it would be my savage 99 in 308 with 165 gr Hornady SST. It's the one my grandpa hunted with for 40+ years so I guess it's sentimental.
This will be the first year to hog hunt and I'm taking "Thumper", my Marlin 45/70 with 325 gr Hornady Leverevolutions. Tomorrow will be the trial run and I'm pumped!
I don't reload.......yet. Have the stuff but not the space.

Deer&Hogs locally here in east Tx- .243 Hornady 95 gr SST Longer shots or a trophy hunt- 30/06 Fed 180 gr Nosler Partition That 95 grain SST is a surprising bullet in the .243 for sure. I shot a 250lb boar in the face with one in February. It went in through the side of his face and penetrated completely through his neck and chest cavity and mashed his vitals. The shot left him twitching where he once stood. Whoever said the SST doesn't penetrate at close range at high velocity probably hasn't actually seen it.

22-250 with barnes tsx's flying at around 3700 f.p.s. is all you need here in Texas. Nothing has walked more than 5 yards including some nice big south Texas bucks we have in our ranch. And thats including some at around 250 to 275 yards. Thats the range i really feel comfortable shooting.
