I just got on a lease in may in ranger(eastland county) and have been throwing corn from the get go. I have tons of pictures of the same does coming to the feeder every day. But the worry is nto a damn picture of a buck so far. I guess it could be a good thing for the fact during the rut I hope the big ones will come around to chase some tail. What is yalls input?

Is there alot of natural forage around there like acorns, persimmons, any crops? Had a lease in Comanche county and noticed the same thing until things started to die off.

Thats kinda what I was seeing. The are two other feeders that are throwing corn right now. one of them sees a deer every once in a while. And the other sees the same deer come daily. My spot on the other hand is seeing multipe deer there at once.

I was thinking about maybe planting some winter peas come sept to draw more in. never really messed with food plots so I dont know how to get one ready or the pros and cons of them.

The bucks are in bachelor groups right now. I can put a camera on one feeder and see only does for a solid week. Then move it the next weekend to another feeder and have almost all bucks. Your neighbors could have all the bucks right now. How big is your lease? How many feeders? When they get all wild eyed for a hot doe they will fight and break up the bachelor groups. You shoud see them break up in about a month and a half

Last year, all i had was does. It was the same resident doe all the time. Even though there was no forage last year, I still did not see any bucks. Then about late septemeber to october I had a bachelor group of bucks coming around. During the season, I continuously saw bucks. In other words,, just keep the does happy and the bucks will come. Feed the senderos each time you are out there. I never saw an older buck under feeder but they did hit the road feed..... As far as food plots, I like the oats we planted last year. The faired well against all the freezes we had. I would also mix in some rye grass just in case the oats fail the rye grass has a better chance of survival. He planted about 300 yards worth of a powerline.

There are boys around somewhere.

Right?

To echo what others have said, right now my neighbor is running 4 feeders (on 60 acres) and over the last 2 weeks, he has gotten ZERO pictures of bucks. Quite a few does and tons of hogs.

My property is about 300 yards away, but a more natural pathway for deer coming from the heavy creek bottoms to the fields. I've got no fewer than 12 to 15 bucks on camera every week that show up in groups of 3 or 4. They're a stone's throw away from his property and you can take it to the bank that they'll be following does all over the place come the rut, but for one reason or another (my guess is hog activity), they're not passing through his place right now.

I'd give it at least a season and keep the does happy. I think you'll be fine.

well I do have hogs that hit my feeder every once in a while. I did not invest in hog panels this year cause I did n to know if I was going to stay on the lease. My concern was getting corn going and a feeder pen big anough where they are not crowded.

Just don't shoot the first buck you see assuming he's the only one there. That'd be something I'd do.

I'm sure you'll be fine. If there are fawns, there are bucks.

Wheat and rye grass are somewhat cheap and grow easy. Maybe 2 acres or less will keep them coming all season long. Try planting in late September.

I have four feeders on 250 acres. They have been going for a week now. Only getting pics of bucks at one of the and it is in a loction where two draws come togeather. Started out perty much the same last year. As the year went on I started getting pics of them at the other feeders.

You can't fix stupid but you can numb it with a 2x4

I have five does that frequent my feeder and only see the bucks from around late August thru January. Don't worry, when the does get "it" on their mind the boys will come around. Had three come in chasing a hot doe last year, one was a 131 inch 13 point. He now resides on my wall. There was a big 11 point with him, I am anxiously awaiting his pic on the game cam.
