I know i'm probably opening up a huge can of worms here but I need to buy a new game camera and I'm wondering which is better, IR flash or traditional flash?

I don't think it matters much on deer and other wild game. I've taken close to 20,000 pictures over the last 5 years with 6 cameras, and the animals don't seem to care all that much.

Now, if you're trying to photograph poachers or theives or trophy PEOPLE, then I'd get the IR.

I would not say all IR night pics suck. The cheap ones yes, but I think this cam takes great night pics, and day pics.

Yes they are nice but for the price of that camera no thanks.

You will spend more than that over the years on the cheaper camera. This is the only camera I have ever had that has worked 100% of the time. No issues at all with the cam in over 2 years. And have only charged the batteries 3 times.

here goes some... got similar pics from the Bushnell Trophy Cam.

and it's pretty dang close.

and once the batteries start going on the Stealth Cams, you start getting pics similar to this.

the IR just doesn't seem to carry as far as the flash on our other cams.

buckeyes are good cams though.

That pic is about 50 feet away from the cam, it was just the first buckeye pic I ran across on my photobucket account. Here is one that is a little closer similar to your set up. The buckeye needs to be further from the action than most cams, it is almost like it magnifies the pics compared to other cams. What looks close with a buckeye is not near as close as it looks. . Remember this is only 3 megapixel, what is the megapixel on your stealth cam? It will take probably around 10k pics clear like this on one battery.

Thought I would show you what I meant by the magnification of the buckeye. Both these pics are took from the exact same location. One with the scottguard, and the other with the buckeye. The scottguard is a 5 mega pixel, and the buckeye is 3 megapixel.

Stealth cam is 8MP...and I hate it/all 3 of them! Daytime is great on them, but our deer show up on the feeders mostly at night! I like the buckeye cams, I just wish the ones we had hadn't sprouted legs. (Except for the $ lost, I was almost glad the Leaf River walked off as well)

I hate my leaf river. Misses a lot of game, and works when it wants to. That sucks your cams got stolen. I just really believe that with all the stuff the buckeye comes with and how long it lasts it will be cheaper in the long run to use the buckeyes.

If you want to do any night time video you will have to have an IR unit. I only do video on my cams. You get so much more of what is going on there. I have two Wildview IR cameras and like the night time videos.
