Im old and a little slow so help me out. I see some of you saying to put pvc pipe on the legs of deer feeders to keep the coons from climbing the feeder. How can a coon climb a metal feeder leg but can't climb a pvc pipe?

The PVC pipe is slid over the feeder legs in a way that when the coon climbs it, it spins around and the coon can't hold on. At least that's my guess. I've never used them, I have cages around my timers and don't have that problem.

+1, I just use cages around my timers too. I've seen people use pvc, inverted funnels and all sorts of stuff on their feeder legs, though.

I have seen feeders like this...I believe
they then coat the outside of the PVC pipe with grease.

I hade trouble with coons tearing up my feeder. I found if you mount the leg kits center around the barrel rather than the bottom. the have a hard time reaching the thrower.

Also invest in a wire cage / varmint cage. Bolt that sucker down good though. A coon can grab hold of it and literaly shake / tear it right off your barrel. over kill on the mounting hardware is prefectly fine.

PVC is loose over your regular metal feeder leg and suspended from the top of the leg. the coon climbs the metal leg, when it gets to the PVC, the PVC spins and the coon falls off.

No grease needed, that's a WHOLE nuther theory...

i know of something that works on coons, very well. And there is no unintended consequences, like killing anything but what you are targeting.. It has worked for many years, since George Washington.

There is a big market for this, and plenty who are skilled at using one who probably wouldn't mind helping others with their coon problems. you don't have to worry about removing dead, hot bloated animals from traps. And if you get the right person with this skilled tool, you don't have to be there for it to work.
But if you would like to be, well then you would be in for a good time. And might even want to buy one so you could have the fun your self

I fought this fight and tried everything. Finally put cages around the spinner and problem solved. don't waste your time on anything else. I used vinyl coated 1/4 mesh. Plus it makes the corn fall straight down and I have noticed less livestock coming around as well.

Varmit cages gave our coons something to keep them balanced while they reach through the squares and feed the hogs all night. I bought 2 $55 traps and tons of sardines, did not bother the deer and we removed 23 coons. I have no coons now.

I do both cage and pvc no coon problems. The pvc is about 3' long suspended by wire half way up the leg. the coon climbs the leg gets to the pvc and it spends on the leg and coon can not hold on. If pvc can be reached from the ground the coons will climb up the bottom underside of pvc and coon will make it up the leg. the only reason for cage is , I had the cage first and if they make it past the pvc they will not rip the unit off.
