Does anyone know when the 2010-2011 public hunt drawing booklet comes out? I thought I remembered it coming out in June but I haven't gotten one in the mail yet and there isn't a link on their website. I found the new public hunting lands brochure, but I am looking for the one that lists all of the individual hunt categories and has all of the hunting dates for each property. The drawing deadlines for pronghorn are usually in the middle of August so the book needs to come out soon if people are going to have time to register.

supposed to be released the first week of July.
I've been watching for it too....

Yep, got mine yesterday too. Now comes the fun part, deciding where and when to put in for. I used all "20" of my preference points last year on the Chaparral.

Where can you pick these up? You can go to any TPWD office and pick one up or just call them and they will mail one to you.

FYI-I am going to call tomorrow. Each hunting season, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department publishes Special Drawing and Regular Permit Hunting Opportunities . If you wish to have a copy mailed to you, please call 1-800-792-1112 (menu 5, selection 1) to receive an application booklet through the mail. The booklet contains charts, a calendar, descriptions of areas open to Public Hunting through the Public Hunt Drawing System and other information regarding hunting permits. Application cards can be found in the back of the booklet or as a separate form.

what does it cost for the hunts or do you just get drawn and go. Get the book and read it. If you mess up on the application, you can be disqualified. If you enter in more than one hunt in a single category, you will be disqualified. A lot of people get disqualified just because they filled it out wrong. It cost $3 to enter per hunter, per hunt category. Then, if you get drawn, you pay for the hunt permit, which will be $80(2 day hunt) or $130(4 to 5 day hunt) Seems like somebody in my family gets drawn every year. Last year, my brother, dad, and me were drawn for a management either sex hunt at Lake Mineral Wells SP. We all shot a deer. My son has been drawn for a youth hunt 4 years in a row now. Two yrs ago, he was drawn for 2 hunts.

As for as getting drawn, it all depends on what area you apply for. Years ago we applied for the Chaparral and got picked the first time we applied. Back then, if you got drawn, you couldn't apply the next year. The following year, we applied and got picked again. Several years after that, got picked once more. Then we went on a "20 YEAR" dry spell. Finally got picked last year.

I know what you mean about Wes, he was a great individual, always helpful, eager to assist anyone and pass along wildlife habitat management to all. Our friend, buddy and co-worker will truly be missed, but not forgotten! On another note, please make sure that you not try to apply for the hunts online, our system does not have that capability as of yet, but hopefully in the future. Download the application form(s), fill in the Hunt Areas and required information for the hunts you wish to apply for, cut the applications apart from one another, send in the required application fees per applicant (17 years of age and over; youth 8-16 are free) to TPWD Headquarters in Austin no later than 5pm on the deadline date for the selected Hunt Categories and you will be entered into the drawing. Good luck to all!!
