I have chaps. They are nice so you can just take them off when you get back to the truck. They were also great for cactus when I was quail hunting in AZ. Chaps or gators? I've used gators before and will probably get another pair for summer, boots in winter tho. I bought chaps. They go all the way up the leg and snap around your belt. I figured the snakes could possibly strike above where the boots and gaiters stop. Plus it kept the cactus thorns out of my upper legs where boots would do me no good. where can you find chaps? I've always been afraid of a snakebite above my boots as well.

Well, it seems I'm a little late on this thread, but I just want to let you know that I have been through a few different brands of snake boots and the Danner Pronghorns are my favorite. I will probably buy another pair when I wear these out, although I have been wearing TurtleSkin Snake Gaiters lately, so it will be a while. If you are looking for gaiters they are the only way to go. Light and comfortable. If I can figure out how to do it, here is a link to the site where I learned about the boots and gaiters: www.snakeproofgear.com

I have been wearing the Red Head lace-ups. I changed out the original laces with leather ones and they're good to go. Will definately buy another pair when these wear out.

I have a knee high pair from Cabelas that zip up. I can't remember the brand but they cost like $120. I hate cottonmouths.

I wear regular ol Justin ropers Same here. Someone told me a rattlesnake cannot bite through bullhide leather. But I have yet to try out his theory.
