Someone told me they alternate ammo in their pistol when they load it, jhp fmj jhp fmj and so on. Can anyone shed some light on the signifigance of this.

It comes from the idea that the target may be barricaded or in a vehicle or wearing body armor. Different rounds provide better terminal performance, JHP for flesh; FMJ for penetration, etc.

As to how valid it is, I don't know....

Expansion, penetration, expansion, penetration, and so on. I just keep it straight JHP that I know will function reliably. In .380's I use only FMJ to get the added penetration...

In my 380's I always alternate rounds!! I read it a long time ago and it sounded logical!

My only advice is to make sure that any type of ammo you use for carry is tested to make sure it functions and cycles flawlessly!!! I am amazed at how many people bypass this step, even though thier life could depend on it!!??? bang

Amen sir, don't assume that just because it's the right caliber means that it will chamber and function reliably...

Just doesn't make sense to me. Seems like a good way to induce a failure.

up

Shoot enough (250-500) of the ammo you use as defensive/personal prot
and you will know if the gun is reliable with it or not.
