I use Federal XM193 5.56 and its Lake City Brass, I buy it for 199.99 at Work. That is .39 cents a round for Good 5.56 not .223 and Brass case not Steel.

Which if memory serves wolf and monarch is about 5.99 a box which makes this only .10 cents more for 10x the quality.

pmc was $6.99 a box at Cabela's last week. Not sure what it's going for in bulk. I've never had a problem with it.

I'm a brass guy and I prefer federal or PMC.
I never pay more than 39 cents a round.

I shoot a lot of PMC Bronze. PMC also has a SS109 62 grain than is really good. Aimsurplus, Natchez and Widners are all good places to go.

That's not a bad price for retail.

Rem UMC .223 in 55gr FMJ or 50gr JHP.

You can usually find the value pack of the 55gr FMJ - 50rds on sale for $20 several times a year.

PMC is the second choice and does a great job.

I snagged a box of black hills 55 gr sp to use to sight it in, hows this stuff?

Also, can somebody give me a rundown on pros/cons of 55 grain/62 grain? Ive always been a shotgun guy until this rifle, so I'm pretty ignorant on the subject of loads and whatnot

Black Hills is top notch ammo albeit pricey.

55 gr is cheaper and works great in 1/9 and 1/12 twist rates M855 and other 62 gr has more penetration , 1/7 twist is better for 62 gr and up. I prefer the 62 to the 55 gr. My M4 1/7 twist guns really like heavier bullets . They group very well with 75 gr match hollowpoints

I use, and probably in this order, Wolf, Monarch and PMC, all 55 grain, my smitty seems to like the 55 grain better than the rest
