I struck out but my son was drawn for what I think is going to be a high quality youth hunt. Mule Deer rifle.

Sweet TXcazador....didn't I meet you at SJR outfitters a few years back? Unit 34 archery is sweet.....I know some good spots for elk there. I'm thinking about a landowner tag depending on the cost....I know they aren't cheap.

I drew a deer tag for GMU 34. Season is in mid-November. I applied with some other guys who did most of the research. I am very familiar with parts of Wyoming but am not very familiar at all with this part of NM. Do any of you have any insights you can share?

Yes we met in 2007 I think. Those LO vouchers are pretty pricy in 34.
Any good water holes you remember there?
Ive always hunter solo, so takes awhile to learn the area. This will be our 3rd time in 4 years.
I did kill a nice 5x5 at 28 yds last year going solo. Cant wait to get back there.

I drew archery elk in 36, and archery deer in 34.

36 was my third choice behind unit 34.

I drew 34 deer 1st rifle season, same as last year.

Didn't draw 34 elk (and really didn't expect to).

TxCazador, good luck with your hunt. I recommend you try between Perk and Aqua Chiquita canyons, there are always tons of elk in there. I live in Alamogordo and am up there alot so if you need someone to scout for you just let me know.

darrack, thanks for the info. I dont know 36 that well, mainly just the three rivers area. Ive got my work cut out for me.

Thanks Darrack and Chouse. We are going to probably be camped closer to the blue water area in 34. If yall know any good spots close to there let me know. Mostly looking for remote water to set up on.

Congrats on the oryx tag. Now thats a pricy tag! We ate some oryx in elk camp last
year, it was good.

TXcazador you better go to Vegas for drawing 34 elk tags that many times!!! Did not get drawn in elk 34 but I got drawn for archery deer in 34. I'll just waite and go in Jan. like I always do. Fantastic hunt!!!! Lots of people make the mistake of going to the high country for elk and drive by some great elk and not much hunting pressure down low. Good luck!!! Craig

Im with you , there is some pretty good elk down low and closer to home. There are only 400 tags allotted for 34 for archery season and its a big unit. Congrats on your deer draw!

Have you hunted 34 alot? I've been going there mulie hunting for a long time. 26-27 years if I can count right. I've hunted elk once about 8 years ago, stuck a good one high in the shoulder and he got away. A friend of mine that lives up there guided a muzzleloader hunter into the area a few weeks later and saw the elk I shot chasing cows. Man I love that unit!!!! I see your right down the road from me here in Waxahachie. Let me know if I can help! Craig
