I am beginning to see a lot of hogs on my place. I have my feeders staked down, so they are not bothering them, but they are eating the corn and protein on the ground. I do not have any cows.

Do hog panels work to keep the hogs out of feeders and also, what size do you all recommend that work the best? How many tposts do you use to put them up too. Where is the best place to buy hog panels. I am about 9 miles south of Graham, Tx.

I have a trapper that is suppose to come out and trap some, but I know he won't be able to get all of them, so I wanted to do everything I can to keep them out of the feeders.

Also, I assume that hog panels won't hinder the deer, turkey or anything else that can jump over them. Is that true?

If you put up hog panels around all of your feeders, will it help to keep the hogs off your property as they won't be able to get a free meal at the feeders anymore?

Deer can jump over them easy. They might not feel comfortable in a small enclosure though unless you use a lot of them. We used six around each feeder. I never saw a turkey go into ours. I removed the hog panels this year cause the cows would just jump over and bang on them anyway. After I removed them, I started having turkey make a stop at the feeder daily. But did not have a hog problem. In fact, never saw a hog in three years while hunting.

A hog panel is 34" tall, so deer will have no problem in getting over them. We used cattle panels cut in half and have them at 42" and the deer have no problem. If I were you, I would consider building a frame of angle iron or square tubing to fasten the panels to. This will reinforce them. I have seen hogs push hard enough to bend a panel in. This would also allow you to save them for later use or move them around much more easily. You can make these frames so that you would not need any post. They can secure to each other at the corners with 3/4" pins. A lot less work setting the pen up and it is not perminent.

Check the local Tractor Supply for panels, they carry them and are as cheap as anybody.

Put the t-posts in durned deep. They have now dug them up and dumped over feeders twice on my place.

I wouldn't use affordable panels. I would go stout and expensive. I saw a huge sow a couple of months ago on my place that looked like a hippo. I've seen some others that were huge. Cheesy panels wouldn't have impressed them.

it sounds to me like some hog killin' is in order!
I have had no problem with them getting in my pens and keeping cows out. Must be some starving hogs to dig and cows to jump!!!
Angle iron is nice but would run about $30 per panel on top of the $20 panel. This makes a 6 panel enclosure $300 plus much labor to put together. It would be easy to move if needed though.
WE tried a new way of keeping pigs away this year. Kill one and hang it from a tree near your feeder. It worked.

If you don't want hogs to mess with your deer feeder just get a protein feeder that dosen't broadcast and have the tubes high enough that hogs can't get at it. Stake a 4' piece of rebar 3 1/2' into the ground next to each leg and use bailing wire to secure it so the hogs can't knock it over. Also I have a hog feeder on my place that is just a cheap broadcaster that feeds a few minutes before dark. The hogs won't mess with the protein feeder if they can get corn from another feeder easy. And shoot some of them hogs! They taste great.

We used 8 panels and just semi folded 4 in half to make our corners no post needed there and put 3 post on each of the other 4 panels for sturdiness.deer and turkey come into them just fine. but we cut the top horizontal row of bars out between each vertical bar on the first row,as to make it spiked and then drove (pushed)the spiked end into the ground,this keeps out the bigguns so far, but as you can tell not the babies, gonna have to run some mesh type wire around the bottom!
