So I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a gun in 6.8. What guns should I look at that are under $1200. I'm looking for something to be a varmint and pig gun, and maybe some deer. What do you recommend, but more importantly, WHY?
To go with this, I dont know much about semi-autos, so if you feel like you need to explain something, please do so.

Think I've narrowed it down to two. Rock River or Stag. If you have any input, add it. I'll check anything out.

http://championfirearms.com/index.php?op...7&Itemid=67if it were me, i'd get that gun right there... it's the best value in the 6.8 AR world as far as i can tell... You'll pay a good bit more for a stag... i personally like stag a bit better, but not $140 better

Though I own 3 AR's, I am not really a fan of semi-auto rifles. I have toyed with getting a 6.8 too, and with the price of ammo, I would definitely get a bolt gun to keep from chasing brass for reloading.
If you are not a reloader, I guess it doesn't matter, and then, I would go with a Rock River NM lower as a basis for the build. I have owned a "few" Rock Rivers over the last 12 years, and all have been well made and accurate rifles.

I've got a Savage .270 for my bolt, I want a fun pig and varmint gun, and maybe a deer or few.

RRA or STAG personally I would go with the RRA just for the NM trigger option but thats the great thing about AR's is you can do it later on down the road if you so choose.
I sell more RRA than any other AR platform rifle pretty much put together if that tells you anything, there great rifles that come with alot of value for your money. That being said I think Stag is on the same tier as far as quality of workmanship and value of money I just don't sell that many unles the person is a southpaw.
I think you would be happy with either, although my vote goes to RRA as you have more factory options.

Personally I own A FN FNAR in 308 and it is a dream to shoot and accurate enough to be a varmint rifle. I also personally prefer the 308 over the 6.8. You can buy the winchester SXAR for right at a grand in CDNN.com I have shot 5/8 inch groups with factory Hornady ammo that does not break the bank. Just my 2 cents if you have any questions let me know.

I've always wanted the Springfield M-14. Cheaper than dirt has them for around $1300.

"We are working on 6mm and 6.5mm barrels for the 6mmBR, 6BRX, .264 LBC and 6.5BR please call for more information. A 7mm wildcat is also coming, either a 7mmBR or a 7mm based on the .284/450 case." The 7mm wildcat would be VERY APPEALING to me if it works out!

Why don't you read the whole post, RRA that i order already have it in them for the same cost as the STAG which does not have. I even go on to say that you could do it later down the road if you wanted.

I was not bashing anyone, only pointing out that a two stage trigger should not be a sole deciding factor in a new gun purchase. The Rock River NM triggers aren't the greatest anyway, least not the one I have. It's better than a single stage GI though.

There better than a factory AR-15 trigger but there not to smooth for tactical/hunting aplications where the rifle is actually going to be used, you don't wan't/need a benchrest style target trigger in a Ar-15 that is gong to be carried in the field. Which is why I recomend that particular rifle as it is perfect for hunting/tactical use.

The thing about Rock River is that they use 1:10 twist in their 6.8's. That may or may not matter to you but find out if it does first or risk buyer's remorse.

I have my preferences for builders, but one thing I would not deviate from is the barrel spec, SPC II chamber, 1 in 11 twist, 4 groove rifling (the only exception would be any of the specs from Harrison at AR15Performance)
also make damned sure it has real m4 feedramps, the last few Stags I have seen did not and I did it for a buddy with one...
the 6.8 is a deer and hog killing machine!
