I have a .270 and I'm looking for a scope that has a 50mm objective lens at least, and at least goes up to 16 power. Can yall help me out.

Look into Burris. www.burrisoptics.comI've got a Fullfield II Tactical (the O.D. green one) and it has GREAT light transmission. That scope is a little over $500 out the door though. You can get them through www.swfa.com or www.midwayusa.comI gave you the meat AND the taters!

swfa.co or bearbasin.com. I looked around a bit for what you wanted and the Nikon Monarch 4-16x50 fits the bill and is right at that price. I a msure you would be very happy with that scope. Burris doesn't make a FFII in that size and any other of their models would cost more. I am partial to Weaver's so I would defintiely look at a 3-15x50 SuperSlam for abut the same. Neat scope.

Weaver and Nikon were both mentioned as having offerings in line with your requirements. If ok to spend more than the $500 then my first look would be at Meopta Meopro 6-18x50 for about $600. A very good buy.

No one has any brand suggestions though? Why are you sold on the 50MM is it because of higher light transmission qualitys ? I only ask because certain scopes have better lenses, that are of better optical quality meaning you could have a cheap 50mm beat by a higher end 40MM. There have been a few. You seem to know better than anybody what your looking for and why, so Check out the 2 mentioned sites and see what fits you the best. Nikkon Monarch, Screupold VX-III, Ziess, Vortex, Burris are all some good brands to look at.

Nickels- that is a very good choice for what you describe. First and foremost when looking for brightness in a scope it should be described as having Fully Multi-Coated lenses. Not coated, or fully coated or multi coated- but fully multicoated lenses. The quality of that coating will determine the differences between manufacturers. Nikon is very good and will be nice and bright. What a 50mm allows you to do is to keep a brighter image at higher magnification by providing a larger exit pupil. Make sense?

oh one more thing- just remember that you will need to get slightly taller rings to accommodate the large bell. As far as rings go I strongly recommend the Burris Signature rings. They have a nylon insert that works wonders at keeping a scope in place and free of scratches.

Nickels If you want Swarovski and Zeiss quality German glass at a Leupold price, the new Minox rifle scopes are really nice. I bought one of the ZA-5 3-15 scopes and like it a lot. Here is a photo of mine on my Sauer 202. Here is a link to Cameraland. Cameraland

SWFA's "sample list" has the Bushnell you mentioned in a slightly used condition for 600. http://www.samplelist.com/Bushnell-25-16x42-Elite-6500-Riflescope-DEMO-B-P829.aspxI went for the 50mm objective and kind of wish I hadn't. It's big - noticably big - on a rifle. I'm not looking to get rid of it or anything, but I think it was unnecessary. The difference is light transmission is negligible, it seems, and it's really the glass that makes the difference. That said, I can see in the dark with my Kahles 50mm objective (for example, I can see through the scope after sunset much longer than I can with my naked eye, binoculars, or Leupold 42mm VX-III). Then again, the Kahles is much much clearer tan the Leupold anyway, so I think that's where the real difference is.

The Minox DOES NOT have a manual parallax adjustment, and in my opinion, it is the only drawback that I can find with the scope. The parallax is set for 100 yards, but I have shot mine inside 30 yards and out to nearly 200 with no problems. One real plus to the Minox is that it is a "classy" looking scope, and it looks right at home on an "upper end" rifle.
