The only con I've heard of is in the old surplus rifles sometimes the barrels are a lil bit tighter which can cause preasure problems. They have been made in a variety of rifles due to the round being of the accurate type.

yeah he said the barrel is a 1/8 twist. ikm not sure if that has anything to affect the pressure problems

No the twist has to do with stabilizing the bullet at diffeerent wieghts. The preasure thing has to do with some having a slightly tighter bore diameter, its mainly a concern with reloaders.

Research it on Google. You'll find that it is a top caliber in a top of the line gun.

Kimber makes a 6.5 swed that is resonable and very accurate. And any of the 6.5s are awesome on game

Great caliber used widespread in Europe.
Everyone loves it - just purchased one myself.

Have a old swedish mauser i had sporterized and had a timmney trigger installed and its my favorite caliber bar none! Have several rifles i could use but always pull out the 6.5 to hunt with. Left the barrel at 29 inches wich is a bit long but anything within 300yds dies with that gun.

I was in a article/story in old issue of Gun List Nov 2003. I took a 8 pt and a 6 pt with a M38 Swede short rifle using a scout mount from BSquare and 2-7x32 LER optics,140 gr Federal Premium TBBC rounds. Poleaxed both deer.
I reload for the caliber 100gr,120,140 and 160gr pills.
I currently have a beautiful CZ 550 FS. Thats the one that has the full Manlicher type stock. Has a set trigger and man does it shoot lights out. Warning....shooting such an accurate caliber/rifle has been known to bring on bouts of boredom .... not!!!

There are only "pros" with this caliber - no "cons". Light recoil with excellent penetration & knock down on wt/mule deer & hog.
Tikka T3 SS Lite is my choice. Shoot Remington factory loads in 140gr. Discovered this caliber in 1994 and think it's a keeper.

Agreed, I am a Tikka gun nut too. 6.5x55 is my next calibre,
was going to be a 7mm-08
but 6.5 has swayed me ballistically.
I like my 8mm Mauser also M98-K

6.5X55 is an awesome and a versatile round. The only draw backs are to maximize the gun's potential you must reload and the stories of people over loading early 1900's milsurp firearms. Because there are millions of the milsurp guns out there factory ammo is loaded down quite bit.

There was a point in time where the Swedish Mauser's were dirt cheap but those days are long gone after people started to realize what a bargain of a gun they were.

There's ton of info about the round ranging on how the round is so effective on large game for such a small caliber to its mild recoil.

Its an excellent round for all age groups and genders if you reload.
