I like them both ! I have a .270 and have had .308 some difference, but hopefully someone more in the know on .308 can give some data. I only used them for shooting hogs at short range 2 to 300 hundred yards, so can't say about performance farther than that.

I have both. I usually just flip a coin to see which one I'm gonna use on a particular day. Can't go wrong with either one.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

i use 308 because i like the short action and heavier bullet weight... What he said. There is tons of information out there on the .308 Win type it into a search window and see what you get. You will be tired of reading before there is nothing left to read. Has the .270 ever been a Sniper round, Law Enforcement or Military?

.270 shoots a lil flatter but I've never really cared for them.

They are both good. Both will take anything that walks in Texas.
270 is more of a flat shooting, all around North American game cartridge. Who am I to argue with Jack O'Conner?
That being said, 180gr SSTs do a real number on hogs.
Thought for the day: Ducks were almost hunted to extinction long before camo was invented.

All my love care and respect for a rifle cartridge goes to the .308 Win.
Have absolutely no use for a .270.
Both are popular calibers though.
Glock perfection. The very best and only handgun I will ever have. Nothing comes close!

When you compare the .270 and a .308 bullet that are comparable, the .270 is faster and has more knock down power out to 500 yards. My vote goes to the .270.

308 is my gun of choice... I have a 270, and it rarely if ever sees the light of day...
I can kill anything in NA with the 308, and it's cheaper to shoot day in and day out...
That said, the 270 is a great hunting round as well. As much as we shoot, 270 would get expensive, and that has a lot to do with our choices.

Both can take critters ethically up to elk size. Recoil is really the same. For most Texas hunters I know the flatter shooting aspect never plays into it in the field as much as in the store\mind. If you sight in at 200 yd zero the trajectory difference (between a 130gr. 270 and a 150g 308) is less than 2" at 300yds. Most folks I know have not shot deer much past 200 yds with most shots being half that or less. Because of that I now zero at 100. I bought a 270 when younger because I was so focused on paper stats. A friend was very disappointed he couldn't get a 270 and wound up with a 308 afterwards. Now I doubt either of us would mind swapping much. If I had no rifles and was trying to decide between the two I would find the rifle I liked best, with the better trigger and\or aesthetics and get it regardless of caliber. I kind of prefer short action rifles with 22" barrels rather than long action and 24" just because the slightly smaller length is sometimes a bit of a bonus to me. If I was going to hunt Muledeer or Elk often I would lean to the 270 with heavier bullets.

I like the .270. But I wouldn't mind having a .308 also.

Funny this was posted...I had my heart set on a .308 but got a deal on a Savage .270 so that is what I have.

Of those 2, I'd probably go with the 270. Now throw a 7-08 in the mix, and I'm tossing the 270 out the window. Dunno why, but I love my 7mm08.

I have both, and used to shoot my 270 more. I'm sure it's all in my head but my .270 has accounted for more one-shot kills than the 308.
I recently purchased a Browning X-bolt in 7MM-08, and now I think I'll retire both the 270, and the 308. What a gun. What a caliber.

it is funny watching this go back and forth. The 270 guys nocking down the 308 and visa versa. The bottom line is the shooter. You put 1 well made bullet through the boiler room of any animal in NA or on Earth it will do the job. I do have all 3 308 270 and 7-08 My gun of preference is the 308. i can smoke a 150 gr at 3000 fps faster than a 270 with a 150 or use a 180 rn in close. It is simply versatile
