Does anybody know if predator hunting at night is allowed on type II land? Not only predators but coons as well. I haven't done any predator callin/hunting in years but anxious to get after it. Also, does any of the COE lands allow predator hunting? Thanks!

Thanks Timbertoes, I'll probably mostly hunt the Caddo Nat'l Grasslands Type II since that area allows rifle and LBJ grasslands with shotgun/archery. I might have to plan some trips to the east Texas wma's and nat'l forest but really don't want to drive that far from home (Grand Prairie), but other than LBJ/Caddo that's the only options I know of for predators on public land.

Thats where I prowl also. but mostly Caddo, it is closer.
It has not been very succesfull for me. I know they are out there, see the tracks. Means I was too late

I need to go to LBJ more often, I just get tired of the hiway 380 drive. esp going home, seems like everytime, about 10 miles from Denton, there is someone going 40mph.

good luck!

Good News, was reading a little closer in my "Public Hunting Lands Map Booklet" pg. 11 towards the bottom "Unless otherwise specified for a specific unit, shooting hours for feral hogs, rabbits, and hares will be restricted to daylight hours only and furbearers and predators may be taken anytime day or night (unless restricted in the Legal Game box). Guess I'll have to invest in a scope mounted spotlight and give it a try some night then.

LBJ Yes,
call wise county sherrif before you go. let them know you will be out there.
per directions from LBJ office.

Caddo Red River section:
Call this number:
903 378 2103

this is the number to the work office for caddo. lest ye be arrested. ask them to clarify, and also any difference between federal land and state land. LBJ is all federal (no type 2 required) Caddo had 3 main sections, 2 are State-cooperative WMA's and the third section, by the red reiver, is Federal, no type 2 permit required.

I wish you get told different than I, as I have already spent $$ on lighting I cant use there....I think I will call again, I mgith have gotten the wrong answer based upon not specifiy the Red River section.

And thanks for bring up the topic....the rules can be pain to figure out, and sometimes the game offices..well, maybe they are just trying to discourage the activities that sometimes must be a headache for them. I guess that easy to understand being called out late at night, only to find legal, compliant hunters.

Thanks for the info! Definately will call sheriff and game warden well prior to night hunting. Can't wait to give it a go, just need to figure out which calls to order now.

Now wait a minute.... I gave timbertoes a lesson in skinning squirrels and I didn't get a custom call?
Next time I'll watch like HT did....maybe that'll get me a call!?

you can have one, no problem. likely it will even sound better than HT's, hopefully I am getting better at it.
last night I made some jigs for easier "production".
got some nice White Oak, it makes a nice looking call. better than I expected in fact. HT just happened to come by and drop off those ATV racks, when I had just finished one. still have not put them on.

Just check each legal game box for the area or call the area manager. There are many that DO allow it...

Good Hunting,
