I was wondering if any of you had a good idea for homemade cheap baits/ corn additives to attract hogs.

Coffee grinds work well. Old twinkies and cupcakes work good to.

Anything that has a strong smell i.e. Jello, Kool-Aid, Old Beer, Old Milk, Diesel. If you can mix it with corn and put it in a bucket set it outside in the sun for about 3days with a lid on.

!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!
open with care and do not spill it in your truck bed.

the corn and raspberry jello mix has been good to me. The pigs usually get on it pretty quick. I prefer not to make nasty conconctions with beer and milk and sour corn because I think the fruity, sweet smelling stuff works as good or better.

BigTuna you are right but for some reason I have noticed they will continue to root around in the same spot after the corn is gone when I use the beer soured corn. I dont know if the smell last longer on the ground or what.

I don't doubt it for a second. Soured corn is some pretty foul smelling stuff. Beer soured corn with jello could be the best of both worlds.

corn , corn and some more corn.......if that doesn't work then you can mix some corn with come citrus pellets and soak it over night........if you can't find citrus pellets then just use old oranges.....

anything really works....

I did survey THF members about feral hogs for an A&M project. The most popular and voted most effective hog bait is good ol soured corn. Now, what it is soured in can vary. Old beer, wine, liquor, diesel, you name it.

All it takes is corn, water, and time to sour. I sour my stuff for a week before putting it out.

Diesel was originally used to keep the coons, deer, and cows away....the deer and cows were sketchy at first but started eating it.

Its a tough time of year to bait hogs. Too much abundant moisture and everything is green. My hogs have moved out of a creek bed to a spring fed ravine recently.

Soured corn, is the best.. Some like to add strawberry jello, Big Red, Diesel.

But if you just sour some corn dig a hole with a post hole digger, it will keep them coming back..

Take it from a long time hog KILLER, it works! More more it stinks the better it is.. I've also used soured Milo works as well.

25lb bag of wild bird feed soaked in water for 10-15 days in the sun works well. Or, fill a 5 gallon bucket 2/3 full of corn, fill with water to level of corn. Let sit for a couple of weeks to break down and "funk up". Dig a hole big enough to hold contents of bucket and cover. Spread some of the leftovers about the area. It'd be best to have it (the wind) blowing in the direction of cover or toward an area of woods they travel to and from.

The sour corn will keep them there for a while. I think the reason we put Kool-Aid, JellO, Big Red, Diesel ect. is it makes an instant smell that will not last long but it will get them there.

hogs eat just about anything. i've always used just regular old dry deer corn with no thing mixed in and we see plenty hogs. i think probably any type grain or animal feed that you used would work. you could probably mix jus about anything into it and that would work too.

bottom line just put out some kind of feed with regularity and they will come. no need to do anything special.

Old crushed pecans and mix with molases and a 12pk of nasty beer and bury it. Save a little of the juice and pour some along the trail and on any old stump close by... they'll tear up the place looking for the source.
