I hunted on the Lambshead Ranch, a 50,000 acre cattle ranch that sits in Throckmorton and Shackleford counties (on the Clear Fork Branch of the Brazos River). The ranch is headquartered between Albany and Throckmorton, just south of the Fort Griffin State Park.

We were on the place for about 7 years. It's a great hunting area in TX. Some large, well managed ranches are out there (Nail, Newell, Hendricks, Stasney Cook, etc.)

I've hunted Shack for 16yrs. 5mi north of albany. would never hunt any place else (sept south tex). I can tag out if I want each yr. plus hogs galore and sometimes quail. our lease is 300acres. Not any absolute monsters on our lease but we have taken some 140s out there. but some huge ones taken within 5-10 miles of us

My lease is in Moran too. It is very open. We get some deer but not like the hill country or around PK. Have had one or two nice ones -on average bigger than hill country. We got hogs again that need to be thinned.

we're about 5 miles west of moran, just west of the weather ball. we kill deer annually between 140 and 150. some better than 150 on camera. we r fortunate to have a great creek running thru us so a lot of turkey and way more pigs than we wish to have. quail disappeared about 3 years ago but can still kill good numbers of dove over tanks. really love it out there. locals are great and you cant beat the Beehive when it comes to small town steakhouses. i have some pics, but am new to the site and have no idea how to post them. and sadly thats after reading the directions posted under FAQ.

Chris, we are exactly 2.5 miles east of 283 on the north side of 576. very good chance we've run into one another. i spend quite a bit of time out there in the fall. this year should be huge. after dry last two years, grass on our place has absolutely exploded. we r more lush than we were even in 2007. last year was rough, perfect biologix fields and we'd see no deer in them on some sets. rancher told us it was going to happen as he said pastures were as full of fillery (sp?) as he'd ever seen them last fall. same rancher said this fall should be as good as any in recent memory.

I hunted up there for 5 years in the late 90's, early 2000's. I absolutely love that area. It is just too far from me as I am south of Houston. If I was a DFWer, I would own a ranch out there. The last place I hunted there was south of Albany and was about 2700 acres I believe. It was called the Dyer-Simms ranch I believe. I leased it from a guy named Steve Ford.

rtp, been out there for 8 years now. moved to houston from dfw two years ago and the 5.5 hour drive is a haul. im just in to deep too leave. if its the same steve ford i know, he's a really nice guy and still guiding out there. he had the Herd Ranch that sits on 283 a couple years ago and the deer we use to see off the hwy in their field bout made me wreck a couple of times.

I hear ya on the in to deep to change now. That area always reminded me of a cross between the Hill country and South Texas. It really doesnt get much better. Good luck this year out there.
