anyone have a good recipe for .257 weatherby? Be shooting out of Remmy CDL SS fluted 26" barrel with 1 in 10 twist. Fixing to acquire this rifle and looking for a good starting point.

Thanks in advance.

You will find IMR-7828 is your brew for the 257. I shoot 110gr Accubonds in mine. Start at 70gr and work up till you find a sweet spot. Seat your bullets long as possible.

I shoot 100gr. Barnes TSX out of mine- and they drop deer like THORS HAMMER!!!

I use 71.0gr. of Reloader22 with a 100gr. TSX and that gives me a confirmed velocity of 3,550fps (have chronographed them); and thats not even the max load...max load is 72.0gr(id keep it at a max of 71.5gr)....And this is out of a 24"barrel and I believe yours is a 26" so you will get 60-75fps more!

THIS LOAD= exact factory performance of the Weatherby 100gr. TSX factory loads!

Tips on .257wby

1. No matter what use MAGNUM RIFLE PRIMERS!
2. Full length resize brass you get second hand
3. Get a necksizing die so your brass will last longer.

I have also used IMR 7828 but stuck with Reloader22, I use IMR7828 in my 300wby.

As far as seating them as long as possible, it depends on the rifle.

Originally weatherby had a LOT of freebore in their Weatherby rifles to handle the original SUPERHOT factory loads, I have heard of some original .257wby rifles having as much as 3/8" free bore.

However Remington doesnt do it to any where near that extent, I would seat the bullet .02-.03 off the lands and make sure it will fucntion through your magazine.

FYI- Weatherby has put out a factory load with 100gr. Norma Spitzers that are $34.95 a box and you can get them at midwayusa.com which is a cheap source of ammo that will give you high quality brass.
