What size is a good size to make a feeder pen. I know you want the deer to have plenty of room but what is a good rule of thumb.

A guy that use to run a wildgame ranch down in Freer, Texas recommended to me no smaller then 10 cattle panels around or square.

We built out first one with tposts and barbed wire and its roughly a 40-50 foot square. Got cottonseed, protein, and hanging corn feeder inside.

Typically, I use eight 16'x36" hog panels, in a square configuration (32'x32'). Plenty of room and easy to setup. Recently I extended the pens another 16' to accommodate an alfalfa feeder in the pen with the corn feeder (32'x48').

Well I ended up using barbed wire. I walked most of the property and saw no signs of any hogs. I build the pen 30x40. Plan on going out there in a few weeks to check the camara to see whats coming to the feeder. hope the signs are good when I do check it.

It is best to do it in a circle, and all of ours have a 30 foot diameter.

what does the circle do or why would it be better. Just a question.

cow panels and the bigger the better. If you just want to protect your feeder, build a small one just around your feeder where plenty of corn can be thrown on the outside. if you want the corn to be kept inside, build as big of one as you can afford.

If you building barbwire fence...it must be square (otherwise the t posts will curve in and wire come loose). The cattle panels work ok...just too tall and I ended up cutting all of them down.

I ended up useung barbed wire. It is 30x45. It has four rungs ran and also is about four and a half foot tall. I will see in about three weeks to see how it holds up. the only thing I am missing is a varmit gaurd.

Were you able to stretch the wire? We use trees for the corners and a truck to pull tight with t-post.

yeah we got it very tight. It was pretty hard to strech it to get out after finishing. Had to suck in the gut alittle.

30x30 cattle panel with extra hog wire. we use minimal t-post but wire sections tightly and tie of to objects

Rougly 42" : if you look close there is 42" fence stays between the t posts.

I really like the fence stays, helps keep the fence stiff without a t-post.

Well I am going to have to make some changes. Went to check my cam to see if anything was coming. Deer are coming to it. But the problem is I have pictures of a calf in the feeder pen. Dont really have mony for hog panels right now. SO would it work if I ran either more rows or barb wire or should I put more t post, or should I put the barb wire stay between them. hope I can get some help by this weekend. I will be going back out there sat to fix the problem.

More strands will help...the bigger the feed pen the better! Once cows get the taste of corn, its real hard to keep them out. Where you able to load pictures from your game cam or phone to show the fence?

I used 10 16' hog panels on the last one I built- overlap and wire the last square on the ends. 1 t-post every 8 feet. Seems to be holding up.

I dont really have the funds right now to spend on hog panels or i would. I went to tractor supply and got some barb wire stary to put up. I am going to put twp between every t post. My t post and about ten foot apart and I am going to put two between every one. I will find out this weekend though.

What he said.... I use at least 8 panels, in a circle. The overlap works great to give it structure. I fasten mine on these overlaps with wire rope clips which will make it really solid, standing on its own. I use one t-post in the middle of each panel, but could use more if there was ever evidence of hogs shoving it around, which they don't/can't.
