Planted some Tecomate, and Tractor Supply's knock off mix this fall, along with a small patch of clover that's supposed to come back year after year. The 2 mixes have basically gone to what I think is wheat, 2' high, and going to head. Do I mow it, turf it up at some point, or just let it go for now. Not as much hitting it as when it was green shoots.... Appreciate any input.

shouldn't hurt to mow it, gives them something tender that will hold moisture longer through the morning.

I was thinking the same thing, but wasn't sure if it was good letting it go to seed like that.

I would mow it, it should brown out pretty quick depending on what all is in it.

We just started our plot this spring.(legumes) we will till it under come September and then plant winter wheat.

By 'brown out' you mean done / run it's course / time to plant for the hot season?

I do have a small section of clover that I intentionally kept off in one corner that I hope will continue for several years like it said on the bag. Of course it also said it would cover about an acre, and I am embarassed to say how little I covered.

I'll have to check to be sure. One was the Tecomate mix, the other the was a TSC knock-off that had the same basic blend. I know they had winter wheat, kale, some clovers, some winter peas, and probably a few things I am forgetting.

Check to make sure the clover is not there before you mow it low. If clover is visiable you may want to raise the mower so not to cut it down. The clover needs to put on seed heads before any cutting is done. The other my re seed itself to some extent. If you will wait untill fall to mow you can do a no till fall food plot. I have found the no till to work really well.

It could be uh law I dont no. Yall have uh good un

clover will be very low to the ground so as long as you dont scalp it you will be fine.

Thanks...

I checked, and the Tecomate was Max Attract 50/50 and the grain was oats, not wheat. Also had triticale, winter peas, clover, and chicory. I thought that the stuff going to head was too short for wheat, but I can believe oats. Their web page says it is good for fall, and provides nutrition in spring. Then they recommend rotating with their LabLab or LabLab Plus mixes for the hot months.

You are right, it is pretty tight to the ground. I'd have to really buzz-cut it to do much damage.
