Where in Fannin County.... unless it's way north and east, there are not huntable numbers of deer, although there are some selling leases in other parts of the county now...

I've heard mixed reactions about that area...like you said...antler restrictions (like them or not) will play a major role in the deer hunting in that area.

I used to hunt public north of Honey Grove back in the eighties. Never saw a Buck, alive or dead, that would have satisfied the AR rule.

Well it's a good thing we have ARs now in Fannin County to let those poor young bucks grow!

The old Coffee Mill Lake bunch used to have a sayin' "if it's got bone, it's goin' home." I hunted there for 8 years. Never saw a Buck on the hoof. It was nothin' to see 50 or more Does in a day. For the life of me, I will never understand why U couldn't take Does.

Based on the comments here there are little or no bucks due to the "shoot anything with horns" menality. The AR's were wanted (by a majority) to correct this problem.

My lease last season was North of Honey Grove and just south of the public land. I thought it was the WORST lease I've been on EVER! You can only shoot a doe on Thanksgiving weekend( didn't see any that weekend and probably only 5-6 all season) and the only buck I seen was a 4 1/2 year old FREAK! Looked like a unicorn on one side with a bunch of stickers. We had three 25 acre wheat fields that should have brought in deer and hogs, but it didn't. Don't even think about setting up a feeder, the deer and hogs don't like em. It might be cheap, but there's a reason.

Nope!!!!!!!!!!! And Fannin County has AR's and he should be turned into to the Game Warden if he DID take two ten pointers. Doubt he even seen two 10's though.

IMO I would look hard for a lease in Montague, Jack or Clay County. Those wouldnt be a far drive for you and you will usually see lots of deer.

I hear ya on that brother. I still think you could find something around $600 a gun if you looked hard. Might not be big acreage but there are some out that way for that price.

Tony I'd hate to see you spend money to deer hunt in Fannin County. In the 80's when the government land was by drawing, it was poor at best. Now that anyone can pay and hunt, there's more hunters than deer in there.
