shedding like crazy. I came home today and my dog has been shedding like crazy. He has tons of hair coming off when I brush him and his hair looks a lighter brown after I brush off the shedded hair. Is this something I should worry about? I dont remember my labs in the past doing this. eek

Not to worry unless hair is getting thin underneath. Mine "molt" occasionally. Getting rid of the old hair. Always look much better after the old mess is brushed out too!

Not getting thin that I can tell but it just looks like a lighter shade of brown and a little bit different texture. confused2

Mine is just coming out of that. It was CRAZY how much hair come off of her and she still had some left on her smile

The guys in the Migratory section told me about a brush called a Furminator and I have been brushing her every other day with that and now I am down to just once a week. It does an awesome job but makes a big ole hair mess.

It will pass just be patient and good luck with the wife, that was my hardest battle smile

Mine used to do that. I remember when mine did that they were about 3 or 4, and that color seemed to be the one they kept.

most dogs usually shed year around but two times a year they shed excessfully changeing from a winter coat to a summer coat. Even though most hunting dogs work better in cool or colder conditions. It is natural unless you can see skin, than you need to go to the vet. and get it checked out. Also the owner must be very acute to making sure they dont overheat their dogs when the temp. changes to getting warm. Most dogs work better in cold or cool conditions.

Is the new coat that is underneath being a lighter color normal? I dont see any skin yet......just massive shedding and a lighter color thinner coat where the shedding has occurred. confused2 thanks for everyones input

what color is the dog and how old is the dog? if the dog is young it could be losing the puppy coat and sometimes the adult coat will be darker or lighter. Also is the hair very thin and in round patches, if so you need to go to the vet.asap.

hes a chocolate and he's one year old this week. Do lab pups completely shed their puppy coat at this age?

My female just turned one last month. When I got her in January she had a darker stripe down her back. To the point buddies were commenting she had a reverse skunk stripe smile

When she shed all her hair came in the color the darker stripe was...I liked both colors so it didn't matter but nice that she is all just one color.

Is that what you are asking?
