Anyone ever use this stuff from cheaper than dirt for your AR's in 223?

I have not but want to try it

It's made by Barnaul and is consistently rated as just about the best Russian stuff. Be advised that it isn't actually brass though, it's brass plated steel. Don't know that it presents any real advantage over Brown Bear, which is usually a few bucks cheaper. Some say that the lacquer coating will melt in a chamber, but the Box O Truth guys did a test, and they couldn't get it to melt...

yea that is what I am reading on some other forums I found when I googled it. I think I am going to go ahead and try it. At least my son will enjoy it.

I consistantly use the SILVER BEAR version in my REM 742 30-06. Great ammo at a great price.

it does great in my SKS.

and I've put a couple of 100 rounds through my mini 14 with no problem (except accuracy) it really seems to like Academy's Monarch ammo best and it's cheap too, and has brass cases.

I tried Silver Bear in my AR.

Big mistake.

Failed to feed properly, failed to eject properly (had a case get stuck and had to have a gunsmith knock it out)

I use what I have left of it to do initial sight-in on my .223 bolt action rifle. Accuracy leaves a lot to be desired...and it's dirty.

I know you were asking about Golden Bear....but I thought you might want to know about the silver bear as well.

This has just been my experience with it. Others may have had better luck.

What AR do you have. Is it 5.56 or .223 chambered? I have shot 500 rounds or so of Silver Bear through various ARs without issue other than being dirty. I like it better than Wolf. Due to the dirty powder they use I can see where a .223 chambered gun might be finicky.

5.56 upper

I actually tried this ammo in two different rifles.

An AR-15 upper and a Sig 556.

I experienced failure to extract problems in both rifles.

I'm starting to wonder that myself now. I picked it up at one of the Ft. Worth gun shows from one of the ammo dealers there. It was the best priced stuff in the place at the time.

The problems with the Sig in particular bothered me. That's a pretty robust rifle and I have had zero problems with it shooting anything else.

Ive also had the silver bear fail to extract in my two ar's. It also failed to extract in my friends two and his mini 14. The extractor ripped through the rims. But no need for a gun smith. Just lock the bolt back and used a cleaning rod through the barrel and tapped the shell out.

Yeah....I tried that too. And then I had the guy that runs the range try it too. No luck.

That's why I took it to the smith. He put the rifle in a vise and then worked on it.....hard....to get it out.
