I know you can only shoot a turkey with a rimfire rifle during Turkey season.

I'm going to attempt my first solo Turkey hunt in the morning. The thing is there are more hogs and coyotes around than turkeys. Is it illegal to possess a centerfire rifle while turkey hunting, or just illegal to shoot a turkey with a centerfire rifle?

Thinking about brining the rifle and if I don't get any turkeys to come in going to try to do a little calling. Have called in several yotes out there before but very few in shotgun range.

Will probably just leave the rifle in the truck and going retrieve it after giving up on the turkeys. Just curious as to whether it could be a problem if I was to shoot a turkey and then have the rifle with me in the truck. Not sure if its similar to duck hunting with lead shot in your possession even though you're shooting steel shot.

This is incorrect.

Neither is illegal for rio grande turkeys in most counties.

I would look at the regs just to make sure.

I usually only use a shot gun for Spring Turkey season, however there is no rule against rifles for Rio Grande turkey.
