i was walking out in the pasture and went over to a thicket of soapberry trees thinking i might find some sheds. the wind is blowning pretty good right in my face, so i surprise a couple hogs that are bedded down in there. most of what i have seen in the past are feral hogs(hamps, spots & etc) but these were big black hogs they hear or see me and they grunt around then take of running. then about a 100 yds out one of them turns around and starts charging back. all i have with me is a stick i carry to kill rattle snakes and i'm thinking this isn't going work out in my favor. so i'm debating in my mind wether to run or try to kill it like the zulu warriors do on the discovery channel, but about 50 feet away it turns and runs away.
i've come a cross hogs before but i've never had one charge me before. maybe it was a sow with pigs ??

I've had a boar tree me before. Every time he would walk off I'd climb down and here he would come again. This went on for about 2-1/2 hours.

Yeah, that happened to me once.
Pig attacked the wrong whiteguy, because I atacked back with a Sig Sauer, 3 rounds of 135 speer gold dots later and there was dead pig on the ground. Like any professional I walked past and shot it in the head twice just to reiterate my point. You don't attack NICK. lol best 10 bucks I ewver spent

YES! Four different times. I have never had one cut me but have been treed 3 times ( all by big sows with very small piglets) I had to kill a 120 pound boar with a brush hook that did his best to get a piece of me and my retriever. There were no trees big enough to climb. It would have made a great video.

I think it was on the discovery channel that I watched a show that involved a few actual attacks. Those suckers can leave some mean wounds. Couple of guys got it pretty bad. 250 lb hog with big mudders ripping legs and actually getting guys down to their backs. Our land has hogs hit or miss. You may go a month and not see any and then see them everyday for a week. I don't take the chance. If I'm going in our woods I'm always packing heat.

Last deer season I took a head/ear shot on a 200 pounder with a 130 grain 270 round-it usually does the job-he grunted and ran into some heavy bee brush. I found a good blood trail just as the sun was setting. Listening, I heard nothing. Followed the blood into bee brush tunnels on my hands and knees-a decision I soon regretted. I was carrying a Defender 45 cal with 6 rounds of Black Talons. Suddenly the bee brush came alive with a very upset charging boar. It was not yet totally dark and I could see the mass coming straight at me. I drew and fired 5 rounds, the boar turned and ran to my right. It was below freezing that night, so I did not continue my tracking. I returned the next morning and found the boar about 35 yards away from where I shot with the 45. The meat was still good and so was I.

Yep, last year I was out with a handheld spotlight and walked right up on three sows with about 15 piglets. My 30-30 was jammed and would not fire and thus I decided to just watch them. My dog walked right up to one of the piglets and touched noses - that is when all hell broke loose with piglets running every direction. All three sows grouped side by side with the piglets positioned under their feet - the sows were staring at us and popping their bottom jaws (I had never heard a pig make this sound).. My dog thought it was just a game and started running circles around the pigs while the pigs charged her and me. Each time they got close I would yell and they would stop and go back and regroup. I did get right beside a big oak tree just in case I needed to climb up to get away. After about 2-3 minutes (seemed like 20 or 30) I heard something crashing through the brush and on a dead run was a big boar. The boar got in front of the sows and was popping his jaws as well. Realizing it was now time to leave I started walking backwards and about 5 feet behind me was another piglet that was hiding - it jumped up and ran over to the other pigs. At that point, all the pigs turned and run into the brush. I assume they knew they were missing that last piglet and were not leaving without it.
It was a very crazy experience and the only time I have ever been around wild pigs where they did not immediatly run.

It only happened one time in south Texas. A sow came from behind some mesquite, sniffed a few times, and charged to within 30 feet before stopping and snapping her jaw. My handy-dandy 44 mag took care of the problem.

I have tried to get them to attack me. I've gotten in between sows and their piglets, and the sows just run off every time. I've even caught the little piglets and held them at arms length, and the sows always just run off. I guess mine just don't have the same maternal instincts...

Back in college, I worked in an archery / cabinet shop. I would build cabinets most of the time, but the owner kept the archery shop mostly for him and his buddies, and I'd spend hours building arrows and tuning bows, getting them sighted in and so on. We had a bunch of 3D targets out behind the shop, and we'd sit around and drink beer and shoot after work.
I was a good shot, and thought I was pretty hot stuff...
I was dating a girl, whose dad ran hog dogs. He invited me to go with them, and I told him I wanted to take my bow. He set me up at the end of a draw, and told me that there'd be a pig come through there in a little while, they were going to unload the dogs a couple miles down the way.
Sure enough, a little over an hour later, a nice sow comes out. I took aim, and shot. Perfect shot, right above the shoulder, but the arrow didn't pass through, it was sticking out both sides. She took notice of this, decided that she didn't appreciate it, and charged me. I tossed my bow up into some brush, and took off running. I spent nearly 4 hours up a bois d'arc tree, with her continually trying to climb it to get after me. The arrow was basically blocking everything from allowing her to bleed on out, and I had a pretty rotten afternoon in a terribly uncomfortable tree.
Sure enough, just as I was climbing down, here comes her dad. They'd caught a couple in another area, and helped me load mine up in the truck.
I'll never hog hunt again without my sidearm.
