Moving to Junction this year and have to build feeder pens. What is the shortest the fence should be to keep out goats?Also how big should the pen be?

I don't know about height or size never built one. You have to be real careful with the size mesh you put up are you will have goats heads hung in them. I know I use to own a lot of goats. The owner will be real ticked if you go to catching his goats.

I use the short hogs panels with chicken wire on the outside. I also run a tight strand of wire about 10-12 inches above the panel or else they will jump it. Also, if you make the pen large enough where no corn gets out/close to the fence they will not bother you. i have one that uses 8 panels and one with 10, no more goats hanging out.

I hate goats. we had one of the neighbors goats get on our place 2 yrs ago and get his horns caught in the panel. Guess what, after us not being out there for a month in the summer, he didnt make it. You bet we drug his arse back up the the owners property and left him laying there. All I can say is he should have came looking for him, or if he would have made his usual trip over to our side to go fishing then he would have found him.

We never had luck keeping them bastages out of our feedpens. They knocked them down, jumped in, terrorized our feeders(knocked 2 over) and we never got it under control until the neighbor finally sold most of them and then penned up the rest.

goats are just as bad as cows if not worse. tractor supply sells a 4ft panel with small openings at the bottom for goats. Put in extra stays because goats will stand up and push your panels down. And like TCU stated the more panels the better and keep your corn towards the middle of the pen.

Goats are much worse than cows! Sheep are also a pain in the ---.

I hooked mine up to a solar powered electric fence charger. Seems to be working so far.

I hunted with goats for several years and let me say it is almost impossible to keep them out of a feed pen. If you think its goat proof you gonna be disappointed.......the attitude should be on a visit to visit basis......joy if they dont get in, but not too much disappointment if they do.
I would start with 4' hog panels and make sure you have good corner posts and put your t-posts about every 6'. Good Luck !

actually i was told today its sheep. my buddy says they use the cheap roll out 48in tall 2x4 holes and they have never had a problem, i hope they stay out of mine.

the biggest problem with goats and / or sheep they compete heavily with the deer on food source....

Not a fan of goats or sheep...

Axis are becoming a bigger problem than goats around here.

10-4 on goats and axis as being direct competition, not so much sheep though, their impact is limited IF you have good natural browse.

Have gun/bow and will travel

This will keep sheep out but I missed two bow shots and got lucky one was close to the wire trying to "thread the needle" so to speak.

A simple solution is cattle panels with 36" chicken wire fastened around the outside along the bottom of the panels. Plastic tie wraps won't cut it unless you want to go back every year and replace what the UV rays dried out. I use re-bar wire ties, they are dirt cheap by the pound.

By the time a young goat gets to where they can put their head through a square above 36" his horns ought to be long enough to where they won't fit through.

Your results might be different.
