I need to purchase a rifle dedicated to hog hunting. What do you recommend for relatively short range shots, at night, which will allow for multiple quick shots?

Ruger Mini 30
It'll shoot 4" at 100, ammo is DIRT cheap, and Ruger now has 20 rd mags. Slap a red dot or a 2x scope on it and blast away...

For something that's affordable and gives you the best chance at multiple shots before they dissapear like smoke in the wind, I think it's the AR-15. The .223 ammo is affordable also. Once you fire that first round, they get gone real quick in every direction so a good caliber, semi-auto is the best route. All of this is of course, just my opinion. (which may not be worth much in this economy).

I was reading up on the 6.8 spc today and that would be a good rifle for sure. My only hold back would be coming up with that much cash for one pig shooter. Tempting but can't afford 'em. That much green buys a good .223 and a whole lot of ammo. I'd really like to fire one of those 6.8's a few times during a hog hunt though. I bet it would put 'em down hard.

Hell you dont have to break the bank... Just use your shotgun (if you have one) and use a slug barrel and slug-away!

a sks works good for close up action
