i have tried searching but do not see the answer. I am looking for a gun for hogs at my place. Short shots, 60 yards or less, semi, cheap. I found a place to buy a Saiga for $295 new and SKS's are anywhere $200-500. I know you are locked into the mags with a Saiga but I ain't going zombie killing, any other reason they wouldn't be a better choice than a SKS? Thanks for the help.

I have several of both and would choose the Saiga if the price is the same. Decent accuracy, usually better than the SKS, and the detachable mag is a plus. Also, mounting optics on a saga is easier and more secure thanks to the side mount bracket. Dont go sticking a hi cap mag in it as that is illegal unless you replace enought parts to make it 922R compliant (same same for the SKS). Also, regular AK mags wont work because Saigas dont have a bullet guide, its a part of the magazine. Saigas can also legally be converted to standard AK config for cheap money with about 3 hours of work. Both are good rifles and excellent hog killers. Would you tell me where you found Saigas for $295?

Check out survivors SKS board and the saiga 12 board. Tons of info on both rifles.
