My wife and I are thinking about a lease down in Leon County. Just wondering if anyone hunts down there. Don't really know the area well.

You'll probably see more hogs than deer . We always saw more does than bucks when we hunted down there .

Lots of does during the 6 or 7 years I hunted there. 1997-2004. Two decent bucks killed during that time. Like anywhere, depends on the piece of property. West side of 45 seemed to have more deer than the east side back then. GL

I haven't hunted down there but spent a lot of time working down there. There is a very healthy deer population.

You'll probably see more hogs than deer . We always saw more does than bucks when we hunted down there . +1 on the does and the hogs come and go just like anywhere else.

My great grandfather aquired property just south of Marquez and we have an abundance of deer. We are managed by the TPWD now. The pic of the buck on my sig is in Leon county

I use to hunt there when i was a kid. ALOT of hogs my parents still live in freestone county and there are some huge hogs. There is a lot of deer around lanely to buffalo.

I use Hwy 45 as a border. There is no poaching on the East side of it just some crazy locals who think they can hunt on any property. I aways had trouble with locals everywhere I hunted East of HWY 45. Its not every local but theres always a few in each community. Being present on more than just weekend seems to be the best deterrant. Leon county is beautiful. Like other posts some places are good for hunting some are not so good. Might take a year or two to draw in the numbers you want with some management and hard work. good luck ps, I am a local in East texas, but not one of the few.
