It's a longshot......and the .270 would be more suitable for deer and hog hunting IMO.

Kinda what I figured Driller!!! Never hurts to ask though, right? I think I will like my 270 better with the managed recoil ammo I just got, but I won't be able to shoot it to see the difference for another 15 days because I work offshore.

I've got a Remington 700 .270 and recently got an AR-15, but I would not have traded off my .270 for it. It's hard to beat the .270 I think.

Yeah I like my 270, but I keep hearing all the hype about the ar15. I got a couple of buddies that have them and have shot a handfull of them myself. I have been told to keep the 770/270 and save up for a ar15.

if youve shot both, it should be pretty apparent which one is better suited for hunting. the remington, hands down

Why do you need reduced recoil ammo for a 270? They don't kick much, to me.

I broke my right collar bone in 1999 and any sharp kick like that bothers it! It has made me flinch because of it! I am a lousy shot left handed so...but I have been doing martial arts for about 12 years off and on and rarely has that bothered me, plus I'm an Amateur mixed martial arts fighter, which doesn't bother me either! So that's why I got the reduced recoil ammo!

It kicks about as much as my nephews Mossberg 30-06 does! I can only shot my dads Savage 7mag about 5 times before I gotta put his down!

If you have other deer rifles then trade for an AR.

The 6.8 spc shoots the same caliber of bullet. Unless your wanting to shoot 400 or 500 yds I could see staying with the .270. But if your not then I would go with 6.8 spc. I have owned both and sold mine to get the AR. Maybe you should check out some AR websites to see what the AR is capable of. Then make an informed decision. 68forums.com has some good information. And new loads are coming out all the time. Plus there are several different upgrades for the AR platform as well

Keep the .270 and get the AR later when you can afford it. The .270 can be used for anything from coyotes to elk. The AR is fun to shoot but you will not have near the gun power or hunting versatility. I look at my AR as a step between my .22mag and my .270. Granted you can get an AR in a bigger caliber than .556, but if I was to go bigger it would be to a .308 and then maybe I'd lean toward the AR.

If the 270's recoil is a little much, Look into replaceing the recoil pad with a simms or a pachmyer decelerator pad. They really do make a world of difference. unless the remmy alreaky has the r3 pad then disregard prior statement.

Honestly I don't think anyone would take your rifle in exchange for an AR. 770's are kind of an entry level rifle.

If you do it and that is what you going for the go big the lr-308 or ar-10 in 308, remington has several to choose from 243,7mm-08, and the 308 all are good for deer, coyotes, hogs, and pretty much anything else you want to shoot, but always remember shot placement is key practice practice practice, that is easy for me tosay though I have a 50 yard target in my back yard and a 100 yd in the front can get 600 in the back hay field TGT has been helping me out. He got me my first big ar platform rifle and I took a nice deer this year at 131 yards he jumped and took 3 steps dead. using a 178 gr a-max in the vitals.
You can't handle the truth!

So that's why I got the reduced recoil ammo! so much for calling you a sissy b/c of the recoil I would agree with the guys above... A 223 is kind of light for deer unless you hit them just right. I would look at the 6.8 round in an AR platform. My friend has one and it will take deer and hogs no problem!

A limbsaver slip-on recoil pad should tame that .270 until u can afford to buy an ar. The limbsaver is about 20 bucks @ walmart.

Hmmmm.......an AR-15 in the 6.8 SPC or a Rem .270 Win. I personally like the .270 Win, but would opt for the 6.8 SPC due to the recoil since it makes you flinch. It is the same bullet as the .270 as mentioned earlier which makes it PERFECT for deer and hogs. Trade it and reap the rewards of being able to shoot w/o a flinch. You'll be happier also.
