Obviously very new to hunting and have family land. Fixing to set it up for deer/hog hunting. My question is the only thing I want to do is keep the cows away from my feeder. I dont mind hogs as I believe I would like to hunt those also when not able to deer hunt. I have read deer get stuck in barb wire but dont want to panel and keep the hogs out. Did think about using a short panel but raising it off ground. Thanks in advance for everyones time and thoughts.

I hadn't thought about that before. We have cows on our lease and of course like to keep them and the hogs out so we use panels.
Maybe you could cut out a few of the lower sections in the panel to leave an opening for the hogs. If you do let them in make sure your legs are staked down (T-posts) or the hogs will bump or rub them and knock over the feeder.
Another idea would be to set your feeder to one end of the enclosure (instead of the middle) so it throws some of the corn outside the fence.
Good Hunting, Gary

I have 2 pens with barb wire, deer will not get stuck in it. I have plenty of deer still coming to the feeder. Just make sure to set it low, I have mine around 4' high in a 40x40 pin with t-posts. The barb wire should also be tight so they can't get a foot caught up in it. If the pin is too small the cows will still hang around trying to eat the corn.

On the pens we want to hunt both deer and pigs put the feeder at the edge of the pen so it throws corn in and out of the pen. The pigs can eat the corn on the outside and the deer can eat on the inside without worrying about the pigs. We have lots of success this way. I have over thirty feeder setups and some have not fence, some have a pen all around to keep the pigs completely away and some are made as described above. Good luck. BTW, we use hog panel to make our pens. Make them as big as you can afford. My recommendation is minimum 8 panels.

Thanks for all your input guys. I just may go the barb wire route but I do think I should keep it in the middle instead of the edge. Im thinking that if corn/protien go outside the cows will hang around. It is only a 114 acre lot. Not alot of moving around room.

No need to cut the panels to accommodate hogs, just position the feeder closer to the edge of the pen to sling some corn out of the pen for them.

If you have hogs you need to fasten the feeder to the ground or the hogs will turn it over and tear it up. I have used t post.

KC Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy. _________________
