We have not had hardly any success at our lease trapping pigs. We have plenty of trail cam pics and sometimes we get to kill one when they come to our feeders during the daylight. We only hunt on weekends and have tried everything from soured corn, reg corn, potatoes, fish, etc. My uncle had this idea to keep the trap open and let a feeder throw in it. We will set it on the weekend we hunt after the pigs are use to going in and out. The first day it was set we caught one 100# pig. I think this is going to work for us. Let me know what you think and if anyone has ever done this before.

Your on the right track. I would cut up a couple of apples and put in the trap when you set the trap. They love apples and can smell them a mile away. Good luck.

We are planning on building two figure 6 traps in different locations also.

MrRoachie, how does the door work? So they can keep coming in without any of them being able to get back out?

The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

My door drops straight down.. That is the problem now... Planning on making a swing door for it some day.

If you look in the corner of the door (1/4 in. steel plate) you will notice a silver square (1/2 in. plate) with an orange circle. I can set the door open and let the hogs trip it or sit and watch and shoot the door to make it fall.

As for the sausage, I went to Lynch's Food Store out on Hwy. 64 towards Chapel Hill and they had 2 different spice packets. One was a breakfast sausage and the other was like a summer sausage. Both were real good and I would reccomend both.

????????????? poisonivie???????????????????

I have one that sits right on top of a box trap across a simple angle iron frame. It's a far better set-up than a legged feeder. Cut the top third of a barrel off and weld it to the bottom of the barrel. Cover the bottom opening where it sits on the trap roof with 1/2 inch mesh that the corn can fall through and it makes a great tamper proof 'vault' for the feeder timer unit. Not only does it varmint proof, but the third barrel welded to the bottom also contains the feed coming off the spinner plate so it will drop straight down into the trap.

I think I have a basic pic someplace if there's any interest, or I could take more detailed pics next weekend when I hit the ranch.

Here's the pic with some crude labels. Not the best shot, but hopefully it gets the point across. The drawn in timer unit is attached to the original bottom of the barrel, with the welded on bottom third open to the trap. Leaves 2 thirds of a barrel to hold corn, and its easy to climb up on the trap frame to fill. If its still unclear, I can take a few more shots this weekend.

I just used the trap the 1st time since we added the feeder. We have not been able to set it for 3 weeks and this weekend we caught 4 pigs. I am very happy with the results and hope this is only the start.
Before

After

Marinading for 24 hours then cooking for 10 hours. I can't wait. This is a Birthday lunch for myself. I am cooking for all my employees and it will be a feast. I have the whole hog in the marinade.
