I start feeding protein in January and stop in September. I feed Antler max water sheild in 4 spin feeders and one gravity flow. The deer will finish off the feed in the gravity flow roughly every 10 days. It does get expensive.

Record Rack will get better result for you than Antler Max. That fact has been proven by countless deer breeders. It usually is about $1.00 cheaper than Antler Max and offers a better variety mixtures.

The main problem with Antler Max is the "wax-like" coating on the pellets. It also affects the deer's digestive system. I switched about 4 years ago and do not use Antler Max at all.

You should feed year-round with your protein, using the higher percentage (20% or more) this time of year thru mid-May. The does will need that extra supplement for the un-born fawns and then when they begin to nurse.

Later on during the summer, reduce to 16% for the rest of the year. Usually during the hunting season, deer will naturally not seek out protein. But it doesn't hurt for it to be there.

Here's the link.....

RECORD RACK

We feed Record Rack 16%. We mix it with corn 75% protein 25% corn to get them started and then reduce the corn through the feeding period. We start feeding Feb 1st and bring the corn feeders back on Sep 1st. After the first year, we saw a difference in body weight. The deer seemed to be in real good shape, slick with good body fat. Prior to feeding, our largest body weight was around 145, first year on protein we had two bucks right at 160. We only have to protein feeders and we fill them every 30 days.
Everyone will have their preference, just do a little research (read the tag on the bag) see what is in it.
Good luck!

it does get rather pricey, but you can tell a big differece in the health of your herd. were gonna try to plant some extra lab-lab and cowpeas to offset some of the cost of pellet protien. we filled ours up on the 10th of feb. and they are tearin the hell outta it. we've found that a 55 gallon tub of water next to the feeders is a good idea unless its located near a stock tank or some other water source

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
