im going to some land that i have never been before. The land has been hunted every now and then but no stands or feeders in place. i was wanting to know what you guys do when you first get to new land. Any tips and tricks that yall have found to bring in hogs and predators. What do yall look for? Where do yall set up your pop up blinds. The land is near paris, texas if that helps out.

Walk the fence lines & look for crossings, then follow the heaviest crossing into the interior & look for intersections of other crossings, then set up near the most heafvily traveled intersection. Right now after all the snow should be very good as most tracks will be fresh. It really is even better if you can observe a morn & an evening. Good luck

Walk the place and look for natural funnels. where edgeds of cover meet open feeding areas. Set up on the trails to and from bedding areas. Sling LOTS of corn and you will draw in some animals. good luck!

I would get an aerial and over look the property and look for game trails once you get to the property.

Start by walking the fence lines. You will see the crossings if there is game on or around this place. Look at the available vegetation.....is there any??
I have been on places before that looked like they had game but....there was not much.
I have been on places that looked like nuclear wasteland but there was plenty of game!!
LOOK FOR CROSSINGS.......that will lead you in the right direstion of where to set up for your hunt.
FEED FEED FEED FEED FEED FEED FEED and then FEED SOME MORE!!

Where abouts in the Paris area? We have owned land there for 30+ years. Our place is just north of Maxey.

the land was into clarksville. i had a great hunt and a wonderful time with the family. we set up a few stands and feeders and had about 4-5 hogs seens. we really just let the younger kids shoot first and i let my girlfriend take the first shots in my stand. my girlfriends grandpa hit a hog about 30 min after geeting to his stand downed it, shortly after (about 5-10 mins) the hog shook it off and got up and he couldnt get his gun up fast enough and the hog went off into the woods. searched a VERY small blood trail for about 3 hours and then gave up.

p.s. What would down a hog but still allow him to walk but leave a very small blood trail. i think he was using a 223 or 243 and he wasnt sure where he hit him. He did say the hog was inside him and the feeder and his feeder was only about 50 yards. Any comments?

I've shot quite a few hogs that left no blood trail whatsover. Their fat fills in around the wound and though they bleed, it stays internal. Shot a 300-lber once with a 7mm-mag that literally rolled, got up, ran about 200 yards and died. Literally couldn't find the wound and never did. Looked like he just had a heart attack. Not a trace of blood, but one of his tusks was shattered. I know I body-shot him and I know the gun was on (killed 4 or 5 that weekend), so I'm not sure how his tusk broke, but it was blown up.

after that weekend im really excited about the land. i think it has a lot of potential. we walked up 3-4 does getting the kids out to the stands and we saw all kinds of tracks out. we have a couple smaller bucks on our game cams already.

What do yall use for food plots or does anyone use them?
When should you start a protein feeder or should you with the first year your on the land?
As far as the hog control goes, should we set traps? How long does it normally have one come into a trap?
