I was looking at the weather forecast for my deer hunt tomorrow, on our Concho Valley lease. If the internet-weatherman is correct the wind will be perfect for me to try out some Tink's 69 Doe-In-Heat Scent. My question to ya'll THF Members is, will it be a waste of "hard earned" money (and time, stopping to get the stuff on the way down there) or will it really help my chances of seeing the elusive "mui grande" buck we're all lookin' for?

I'm a little suprised no one has weighed in yet. My hunt is tomorrow and I was hoping to get a little "THREAD knowledge" on Tink's 69 (whether or not to even get the stuff) before I leave for my lease in the morning. Ya'lls posts will be much appriciated.

OK, I will, Tinks is probably the cheapest of the scents, less than $5. Not knowing what area you hunt, you might have some post rut still going. IMO it probably would'nt hurt anything, but if anything it might just bring in a smaller buck. Activitly is pick up, just be ready right at dark.

I agree with dgilbert. It can't hurt this time of the year. I almost always put some on my boots when I walk in to my stand. Can't tell you how many times deer have followed my trail. I experimented with this stuff a lot and it usually gets the smaller bucks attention long enough for a bow shot. Never had a mature buck fall for it, but I know people who swear by it.

I never found that it worked. However, it is pretty inexpensive and I doubt that it will hurt.

I got some for my brother this year, and he said that he saw some activity with it. I don't think it would be a waste of time or money if you stopped a got some on your way to the lease.

The buck I shot last year had his nose on a wick with tinks on it when I got him.

Thanks for all the great insight. I went ahead and stopped by the new Academy in San Angelo this morning on the way to the lease. I put some out right when I got on the ranch about 11 A.M., and plan on getting in my stand about 3 P.M. It was close to 25-30 mph wind at noon, hope it lays down before sunset, but the sent should get spread nicely(LOL, LOL). I'll probably have an update on how the hunt went sometimes tomorrow. I'm just really p.o.'d right now because my digital camera I got for Christmas is'nt working, and it's to far to go back to San Angelo and still hunt this evening. Cya'll tomorrow !!!!

Well, here's the "update" from my hunt using Tink's 69 yesterday. The first 2 hrs. were tough, the wind just would'nt let up at all. Only the quail were moving. A little after 5 P.M. the wind eased up somewhat and the deer (I mean bucks) started moving. I saw 5 in all, two 4 pts., one really young 8 pt., one spike, and the "freak" I ended taking as a management buck. The buck was a 6 pt. and had a perfect 4 on the right side and a "best descibed" muley fork 2 on the left. I shot as fast as I could because I did'nt want his "freakiness" in the gene pool for years to come. So I'd have to say the Tink's 69 worked well, but on smaller bucks. The weird fact of the matter was that no doe came threw my area and usually I see an average of 60% doe during a normal hunt. That makes the next question as follows, did the Tink's 69 actually scare the "real" doe away?

Not trying to anwser my own question with another question, but do ya'll maybe think I actually hurt my chances of getting a "monster buck" because the smarter more mature bucks were chasing "real" doe that were scrared away from the Tink's 69 scent? Just wondering!!!!

Well congrats on the management buck. It's always good to thin those freaks out. As far as whether or not Tinks scares does away or not, I couldn't tell you. I guess I never noticed it when I used it. sorry

I've seen 3 really good buck with the tink's pads drippin. and don't normally see and good bucks. So i would say that yes it does work and next year i will have it in my bag to start out the season again.

This buck was killed yesterday while Tink 69 was applied to the base of the tree that the stand was on for a cover scent? Did it help with the kill?? Who knows!!!

Over the years, I've used Tinks 69 a hundred times probably. I never had a buck change direction and come in to it. One of my hunting buddys shot a buck once thatwas sniffing of the soaked cotton ball so that is pretty convincing. You'll never really know if it helps of hurts because you'll never really know what would have happened if you hadn't used it. If it makes you hunt harder, hunt longer, and enjoy you time more then I guess it works whether you see any deer or not.

I used to use a deer attractant that didn't have anything to do with the rut and had great results with it in East Texas. I started hunting in West Texas and the deer would walk right by it and ignore it. I think a lot of scent products are designed to catch more hunters than deer.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
