Just wondering how many vintage rifle hunters we had on here. I hunt with older rifles that are at least 50 yrs old every year. And they still take game without all the modern wizbang modern stuff you are supposed to have as preached by all the hunting pros of today. Thanks for reading

we have an old model 88 winchester .243 that wears a k-4 weaver on it. i guess its around 50 years old but i'm not sure. we have shot it a bit but never hunted with it.
a buddy of ours hunts with an old mauser action .270 made in belguim that has a k-6 weaver on it.....thing shoots like a dream and aside from some worn bluing....looks great.
imo you don't need a new rifle to kill animals, quality is quality whether the rifle was made 50, 20 or 2 years ago.
one thing i do think we are missing out on on todays rifles is good wood
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

since 04 I have been using a 1965 winchester model 70. By looking at it you wouldn't think it was that old.

I have a 98 Mauser dated 1944 factory original 8mm I hunted with. Also have a JC Higgins mod 20 pump 12ga I use at least one day during Dove season. It is a 1954 date code.

My wife's grandfather just gave my son his old 1958 Remington Speedmaster 22. It hadn't been cleaned in years and had been stored. A good cleaning and about 500 rounds later we have no problems. Critters better look out. My son will really appreciate the sentimental value of that gun as he gets older.

I some times take one of my Savage 99 leverguns, usually the 300 Savage with a K-4 Weaver on it. About once a year I will break out the 1897 pump shotgun for a dove hunt.

I'll break out grand dad's Model 99 Savage once a year or so. It's 50 plus years old, looks great, and is deadly inside of 200 yrds.

I hunt with a pre WW 1 Mauser that my grand dad built. 257 Roberts, when I tried to get it drilled to put a scope on years ago two gunsmiths would not drill it saying it was worth to much as it was to drill and tap. The one that did the work saw it as I walked thru the door and asked if I knew what it was? Then asked about the history and realized it would never be for sale. It shoots as well or better than anythig I have shot.

I've got a Winchester Model 12 that belonged to my grandfather - 1930's manufacture. A Winchester Model 94 that was a gift from my great uncle to my father when he returned from WWII. A Winchester 74 that belonged to my father that dates from early 1950. A Volunteer Arms Co single shot 410 that belonged to my great uncle on my mother's side of the family. And a Remington Sportsman 48 in 16 gauge that my dad bought for my mother in the early 1950's to use dove hunting.
All of them are still good shooters and none of them are for sale at any price.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I've taken around 8 deer and some pigs with a remington model 1903 chambered in 30-06. I love that gun more than any other rifle I own. Only down side is it is heavy.

And they still take game without all the modern wizbang modern stuff you are supposed to have as preached by all the hunting pros of today. Thanks for reading Oh all the time. Pictures I have posted in recent years include Javelina with a Rockola M1 Carbine, Hogs with a WWII era Garand, Turkeys and Deer with a 1919 M41B Swedish Mauser Sniper rifle with original matching 1940s Ajax scope, and Turkeys with a M63 Swedish Target rifle built on an 1894 dated receiver. All those are in original military configuration, but one I have been working on that I will probably use at least for some hog hunting this year is an 1899 Krag Carbine Sporter that I have restored to its original as 1960s sportered configuration rather than back to military configuration. Butter smooth action and a mirror bore. it should be a fine hunting rifle. All I am missing now is a click bearing for one side of the old micrometer sight I put on it. Once I find that part, it will be ready to sight in and hunt with. I even put a 50 year old style sling on it. Can't wait to try it out.

I can hit an empty shotgun shell from 75 yards away with it easily. Really, really great gun. Also have a really old marlin 30-30, but I don't know if anyone would qualify it as "vintage". The only change versus the one I bought 5 years ago is the old one doesn't have a safety or checkering in the wood. Otherwise identical.

I hunt with all types of older gins from 1884 Trapdoor to winchester model 54. One of my favorite hunts was when my nephew at age 6 shot his first deer with a Savage 99 22 Savage High Power that was made in 1912
