Yeah, I'm through with the boresnake. I'll clean the bore good each time now, just like at home.
The only thing I worried about on the Match or FMJ bullets is the hard plate on the side of the hogs. I was concerned that the plate may cause the match bullets to shatter and not penetrate. Sounds like this may not be the case. So, I will give them another try.
For a rest, I'm using the sandbags shown in the original picture.

For high power rifle rounds, the "hollow point" isn't really a hydraulic cup for expansion. For one thing, it's much too small and the mechanical expansion you get with a ballistic tip is way more reliable. Hollow point construction for high power rifle rounds are more than just drilled out. The lead is in the back: keeping the weight in the rear and using the jacket for a nose cone up front for aerodynamics, which together give better overall flight ballistics. http://www.sierrabullets.com/index.cfm?section=bullets&page=rifle&brandID=1So, you aren't going to get a bullet fall apart when it hits. The nose will crumple and it will plow on through or tumble. I've heard different reasons for why the point is hollow. One is that the slightly flat, hollow point makes less error than a point that is hard to have on center 10,000 times in a row on an assembly line. Another is because too many ranges don't allow FMJ for insurance reasons so the pinhole is just there to accomodate bean counters. I've also heard, without explanation, that it's simply aerodynamically superior. Whatever the purpose of the HP, the hollow nose of the whole bullet is probably the bigger contributor to superior flight ballistics.

I had a guy that stays at the Holiday Inn Express explain everything I could ever need to know about scopes and I think that may be your problem child. Send it to me for a test and I will send you my favorite Tasco Pronghorn DWC2.510X44R widefield for you to try but I want it back. No battery necessary. Those bore polishing bullets just might work but how bout dipping some of the heavier ones you shot in some Mothers Mag cleaner a little at the time until the bore is bright and shiny. Then a couple with just a little bondo or JB Weld to go fill in any cracks in the lands to stop that wiggle you get after the Mothers. Oh and one last bit of bologna I have a Colt Sauer in 300Wby mag waiting on you when you need it. Bologna not really.
