There was some interest on another post about organizing a hog hunt for us old military rifle enthusiasts, so I thought I'd start a thread to see if we can get something set up.

Location:
San Antonio area. There's a ranch in Hondo recommended that does day hunts for $135. No two day minimum requirement. Max 6 hunters/day. If there's another place you know of post up and let me know.

When:
Flexible. But probably need several weeks notice. Could possible do late February, but mid March would be better.

So who's up for it?

I would probably be in, depending on when it is scheduled for. March would be better for me. My only decision is which one of my old guns to use.

I will drive about wherever for the hunt, up to about five hours from DFW.

uthornfan,

Hondo is about 30/40 mins west of San Antonio. Big D is an easy drive to SA. I always heard people bragging about making it in under 4 hrs.

also if you don't mind, post a pic of one of your old guns. let's see what you'll be hunting with.

I like to get them with the M1 Garand. Even more fun I like to kick it old school and use military black powder.

Stickin' gills and Stackin' bills

I can't wait!

Any excuse to put one of my old rifles to work. I wish I could talk my dad into letting take grandpa's M1 carbine so I can go for some fast followups on some shoats. I would go for my SKS, but I fear it would miss no matter how close I got. So I guess it will be the 91/30 for me as well. Maybe I can cycle that bolt fast enough. This sounds like too much fun.

I am thinking a couple of dabs of glow in the dark nail polish to help with the sights when the sun fades. Any thoughts?

Just checked w/ the wife. The 20th of March would work best for me.

This is gonna be iffy for me. I just found out that sometime in the next couple of weeks I am gonna have surgery on my nose. Nothing as fun as a couple of yards of gauze in your head. Hopefully it will not be to big a deal.

Wade,

no worries, it's still early in the year. we got plenty time to make it happen. I may do a recon mission to check the place out when i'm down there in March.

good luck on your surgery.
