I was just looking at all the mounts on here and for the most part they all look very good. I was just wondering if any of yall have some mounts that came out very bad and have pictures of them.

If we did, I don't know if we would admitt it. I know the first deer I ever did, I can't stand to look at. I took a third place at a state competition with one last year and compared to one I finished yesterday I don't know what the judges were thinking. lol. I have mounted several deer in poses, i.e. straight forward and ears forward. Not tha it was a bad mount, I just didn't like the way it looked. I will see what pics I have and then pos them for u.

My first buck I shot was some 25 years ago. I got a friend of a friend to mount it for me really cheap. Over time the ears curled, hair fell out, eyes changed and the stitches at the rear split. I ended up ripping the rack off and giving it to a kid across the road to take apart and use the eyes and blank for another mount he was going to tackle.

With taxidermy you really get what you pay for.

99% of the time you get what you pay for, price shopping with taxidermy isn't the best thing wink

I would kill for a picture of my first mallard. I mounted it when I was 12 years old. It was terrible of course, but I was on top of the world when my dad helped me to hang it in my room. I left for the summer and when I came back, it had grease-bled all down my wall and had a somewhat offensive odor to it...my mom was none-too-impressed.

For anyone out there getting into taxidermy, keep pics of your first mounts or even the mounts themselves as they are very important to see how far you've come...or have to go. - Matt

Overheard at my last convention: "If you wanna make a million bucks in taxidermy, start out with 2 million and in 5 years, if you're lucky, you'll have a million left."
