Looking fo ra started lab for a friend and here is what he wants. 8-10 months old Started and forced house broke black lab english ( brittish) female he does not have time or temperment to train a puppy from start. the dog would be a family pet more than a hunting dog since he is just now getting into duck hunting. He has several kids so the dog will not be ignored or not taken care of. I will be helping him as well with the rest of the training the dog will be doing. He wants a good dog but does not need a dog that cost several thousand dollars either. Please post info on here with websites and numbers and I will do the rest of the leg work and phone call making. thanks

We breed, jump start and house break them, then let them go between 4 & 5 months for a flat rate of $1,800. FF, additional training would be more. All the pups we release are family/hunting dogs as opposed to kennel/field trial dogs. Traditional, English conformation. Calm, tractable, trainable temperaments. Litter due March 25 will include black. WEBSITE: http://ironspikeranch.com/dogs.aspx

It's going to be awfully hard to find a dog at that age with everything you want on it for less then $2000. Started dogs that are force fetched, raised in the home and marking are sold for that and more.
Also when you do find that dog. Get a hip x-ray done before you buy to make sure the dog has good hips.

if you dont have the time to do it yourself Ironspike is the next best thing and in my case... BETTER than I can do it myself I have been trying to get to Ironspike in east texas but it is 4 hours away, and we both have busy schedules, in the mean time they have given me a wealth of advice to keep my pup on the straight and narrow. I have sent Pm's on several occasions and they are always HAPPY to Help, They raise and train GOOD family/hunting dogs, and truly LOVE the dogs, I am a true sceptic by nature but they are the real deal.

I think I would zero in on a good quality dog and then set up training that fits the dog, rather than trying to get the dog to fit into a cookie cutter training regimen. After all, the dog is the clay - the trainer is (should be) merely the sculptor.

You spoke some serious wisdom there. I've seen that too often when people are frustrated. You ask them and they say...well....the program says "insert any quote here" When you look at the parents of the pup they are both morons and so is/are the owner/owners. Get a well bred dog, with good parents (that doesn't always mean titled) and work from there man. It's the same all over the dog world. Dog first training second. Just my opinion though.

I think Ironspikes has one just like what my friend is looking for. She is going to get some video tomorrow so I can pass it on to him.

just4fun,
I think you will be impressed. I have one of their pups from their most recent litter. He looks good, has great mannerisms and is a great ducky dog. They do a good job up there.

Thanks KTH! I sure appreciate the reco! That little bugger behaving himself? J4F, I've got your vid loaded on YouTube, but I can't pull the site up to get the URL. If you are able, go to our YouTube channel at www.YouTube.com/ironspikeranch. The most recently uploaded video should be for a little black female by the name of Flash.
