I've got a question. Suppose you invite a family member to come out and hog hunt. Would you mind him inviting a couple of others to come with him without checking with you first? The hunting will be done in a fairly small area with cows and horses on all sides so shooting area would need to be closely watched. I know what my opinion on it is, but wanted to see what others on here might have to say and see if my feeling about it is similar.

Happened to me last weekend. Put the other guy in a tree stand where I could see him. After the hunt told my friend not to ever do that again, but rather ask me before hand and i will find him a place. About respect.

RESPECT inviting other without checking with you is total disrespect. My answer would be the others could not come espicially the situation you are in.

The hunting will be done in a fairly small area with cows and horses on all sides so shooting area would need to be closely watched.

I can't think of a faster way to get uninvited, or passed over the next go-round.

A bunch of strangers running around my place with hi-powered rifles? Not in this lifetime........

Wow! How very rude! I would likely explain that I'd only invited & planned for 1 other hunter. I might invite the tag-along to come along as an observer, but he wouldn't be hunting. And just in case my invited guest didn't get the hint from my actions; I would explain to him, in private, that I invited him not anyone else. That his bringing along an uninvited guest was not right. If feeligs are hurt, oh well. It was thier actions & decision, not mine.

It happened to me once.
BIL showed up with a couple friends. Only HE was invited.

Long story short.

We drank a few beer in the yard and no one got to go in the pasture, cause I don`t allow drinking and hunting combo.LOL

Me and BIL had a LONG talk later.

next thing you know, those "couple of others" will be hunting/poaching/tresspasing on your land. Along with a few of thier freinds.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm feeling the same way. We haven't had our hunt yet. Were supposed to go tomorrow night, but I put them off for a couple of weeks due to all the mud and can't get around. Need to have a talk with my family member about what I had in mind I guess.

I'd end that pretty quick.

It is rude and inconsiderate of an invited guest to show up with unannounced followers. The invited person is a guest, anyone else is a trespasser.

After the standard meet & greet, I would nicely state that I was not expecting others. From there, I would make my own decision on whether they were welcome to stay or have to leave.

You are the one being imposed upon, to what degree depends on you. Sometimes, you may not mind and feel 'the more the merrier'. Other times, you will be better off to send everyone home.

Good example of statement allowing them to stay: "I was not expecting all of you, I only invited BIL. However, since you are here, lets get to hunting". This should be followed up with "BIL, next time you show up with uninvited guests, I will have to send you all home". It should be clear that this won't be tolerated again. This is about respect and courtesy.

Good example of sending them away: "I was not expecting all of you, I only invited BIL. I'm sorry, but I am not set up for this many hunters today. BIL has overstepped his boundaries by inviting you all without talking to me. It will not work out for us all to hunt, nobody will get anything with us all in the field. You will all have to leave. BIL, your friends should be mad at you for dragging them out here thinking they were invited. Sorry fellas".

That is my thought on the situation.

I have been invited on many hunts in my life time and it has never even accured to me to invite someone else without asking. That is total disrespect to the person doing the inviting. I have ask before if it was ok to bring a friend or two with me. However, I did not invite them untill I got the ok to do so. I have also invited friends to go hunting with me and thinkfully the didn't pull a stunt like that. It is your call on what you do this time. Just know your right either way and make sure family member knows to never do it again or he/she will never go hunting at your place again. JM2cents.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.
