I bought my son a little Bushnell for about $120 at Academy last year that works just fine. But, if you are not afraid to drop a little jack, I'd get the Nikon that allows for the angles, especially if you are going to be high up a tree.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I just bought the Bushnell Arc 1200... I love it.

If you are going to use it just for bow hunting, I would not spend alot $$$, a bushnell will do just fine, don't get caught up in all the angle hiip stuff, JMO.

I have the same Bushnell range finder. It works great if you are hunting from a tree. I used it hunting from a ground blind with the shoot through mesh fabric window and it wouldn't work there, so it works well, but not everywhere.

Same here. 20 ft up in a tree isn't going to change enough to justify.

If you're in a stand, size/weight may not matter. I have the compact Leupold with the true ballistic range and like it. TBR is not necessary in normal circumstances, but it is interesting to see how much, if any, difference exists in the horizontal distance. It did come in handy once while hunting a river bottom from a cliff. I'd say get it just for the coolness factor. As far as ranging long distances; you may not shoot that far, but you can plan stalks within shooting distance by ranging cover in front of the animal.
